Spine / สัน | Thai Language Tricks
https://jasoninthailand.wordpress.com/2008/02/01/spine-สัน
Spine / ส น. Friday, February 1, 2008 at 8:42 pm. Thai and English share the same concept of a spine. ส น means “spine,” for men and for books. English speakers understand “spine” alone to mean the backbone. But in Thai, that is กระด กส นหล ง—so it’s not a perfect match with English, but still easy to remember. The spine of a book is ส นหน งส อ (literally, “book spine”), correlating with English very closely. Update February 4, 2008:. Entry filed under: Pseudo-cognates. Business Thai Digest: Jan 30, 2008.

Thoughts on Thai language, media, and culture. October 27, 2010. Bureaucracy insanity: What makes a good Thai teacher? Thai 101: Setting up a Thai keyboard in Windows
http://rikker.blogspot.com/2008/06/setting-up-thai-keyboard-in-windows.html
Thoughts on Thai language, media, and culture. June 21, 2008. Setting up a Thai keyboard in Windows. Once again I've been inspired by the good folks over at babelhut.com. There's a very nice post. By Peter on setting up your Windows Vista computer to type in Spanish. With apologies to Peter for inevitable similarities, here is my post for Thai. I figure those searching Google for help will likely specify the language they're looking to set up, so I believe a separate post for Thai is justified. First, an...

http://rikker.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts on Thai language, media, and culture. June 8, 2010. I've been remiss in posting to the blog again lately. The blame lies partially on the trip I took with my family in April to the US, but also on the recent political turmoil. Which I got wholly caught up in following. Recently I've been a guest on a couple of podcast episodes, though. Changkhui in English. Along with me in our (or at least my) video podcast debut. And if you haven't heard of it yet, check out Greg's new show Bangkok Podcast.

Most of the class hated her for her behaviour and didn't talk to her anymore. A few months ago, after not seeing her for 7 years or so, I met her in Luang Prabang, Laos, by chance….imagine that! Thai Language Tricks | Helping English speakers learn to speak Thai
All Hell broke loose / นรกแตก. The other day, my wife uttered this phrase, and when she explained it to me, I realized that the Thai นรกแตก is basically exactly the same expression as the English “all hell broke loose.”. In Thai, แตก means “break,” specifically with the implication of shattering, bursting, and with stuff spilling out. Glasses break (แก วแตก), bags burst (ถ งแตก), and you can bust your head open (ห วแตก). In contrast, breaking pencils or body parts is ห ก, as in แขนห ก. I don’t have...
