http://reve-fm.blogspot.com/2009/03/topix-scoreboard-investing-in-crisis.html
Samedi 21 mars 2009. Topix Scoreboard: Investing in Crisis. Written on Jan-14, 2009. Topix Scoreboard: Investing in Crisis. A dilemma in current investing conditions is that financial assets are facing two conflicting forces: a stream of ugly economic data that does not show any signs of abating versus (and as a result) a compelling equity valuation on large segments of the market. Table 1- Topix scoreboard. Firstly, the sectors that have been the most resilient in terms of earnings have also been the ou...

Review of Japan and Asian Equities: Don't forget to look at the markets in August 2009
http://reve-fm.blogspot.com/2008/08/dont-forget-to-look-at-markets-in.html
Lundi 4 août 2008. Don't forget to look at the markets in August 2009. Still more healthy would be not to read newspapers, ignore the newsflows and look at the fact. So what facts do we have? Oil is getting cheaper. I would see this as good news for markets as it obviously reduces the risk of inflation/stagflation. However merchants of doom are telling us that lower oil price. What are the interesting themes for the coming months? I would identify the followings. Is the Asian outperformance to resume?

Review of Japan and Asian Equities
http://reve-fm.blogspot.com/2007/12/systematic-approach-of-japanese-market.html
Dimanche 2 décembre 2007. A systematic approach of the Japanese market. I have designed eight simple systematic strategies, which can be split between three families (i) The value family. The Low PE, low PEG, low PBV and High Div Yield are based on valuation (i.e. exogenous) factors (ii) The momentum family. The momentum, the bottom-fishing and the low volatility strategies are based on endogenous factors (i.e. price and volatility) (iii) The monkey family. Looking into more details. The Low PBV strategy...

Mardi 18 décembre 2007. The following comments summarise the view of JP Morgan Asian Research on equity markets. The view is globally bullish. Review of Japan and Asian Equities
http://reve-fm.blogspot.com/2007/11/two-conflicting-views-of-world.html
Lundi 26 novembre 2007. Two conflicting views of the world. Rarely has the investment community been so polarised. Bulls could be represented by BCA, an Investment Reserch House while bears are represented by Merrill Lynch US Chief Economist. In this post, I concentrate on the bull case. To defend the bear case, I attach an article from Merrill Research published in the Financial Times dated Nov-15(*). 1) The investment environment is tough and scary. 4) On the credit crisis. One has to recognise tha...

Review of Japan and Asian Equities: Emerging decoupling or another look at SGIXSE11
http://reve-fm.blogspot.com/2009/03/emerging-decoupling-or-another-look-at.html
Samedi 21 mars 2009. Emerging decoupling or another look at SGIXSE11. Written on March 12, 2009. Emerging decoupling or another look at SGIXSE11. Many were caught by surprise when, last year, high growth/ lowly leveraged emerging economies underperformed world markets in general and the US in particular, tough at the root of the credit crisis, hence invalidating the decoupling theory between developed and emerging markets (*). What could make the outperformance sustained? The chart below describes the la...

Review of Japan and Asian Equities: The Tech Sector
http://reve-fm.blogspot.com/2009/03/tech-sector.html
Samedi 21 mars 2009. Written on March-17, 2009. Gavekal has produced yesterday a bullish report on the technology sector with an aggressive title: Technology- A Defensive Sector? The conclusion is, yes that is a defensive sector in the current environment given its overall strong balance sheet, profitability (relative to other sectors) and the deflationary environment, that unlike most sectors is a familiar one in the technology world. 1) In MSCI AC Asia Pacific ex-Japan as of end-Jan 09. 9) Average of u...
