Rutabaga Dreams: June 2014
http://rutabagadreams.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 17 June 2014. I eat a sandwich virtually ever day. Have done my whole life. Isn't that a bit boring? No Actually, no. Lots of variety possible. There is something deeply cultural about it. Somehow, probably because it was cheap and easy, I grew up thinking that lumch and sandwich were synonymous. Lunchtime? But I'm also very fond of elaborate sandwiches, crusty French bread split lengthwise and stuffed full of all manner of salads, meat, and condiments. The first issue is the bread. There wa...

Rutabaga Dreams: March 2015
http://rutabagadreams.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 19 March 2015. In fact I eat most regular foods. There are, for example, very few vegetables I don't like. In a world where some simply don't eat vegetables, or only do so because they feel they ought to, rather than enjoying them, I am far less picky there. 1 Obtain a good bun. 2 Go without a bun. The latter is a great low carb option anyway. I bet I eat, and enjoy, a longer list of foods than most people, actually. No, my tastes issues are quite specific. Mostly to do with quality. I ...The r...

Adventures in a cluttered kitchen. Monday, 27 January 2014. Low Fat Spice Cake. Fancied a change from the normal fruit cake which I usually bake, spotted this on all recipes. Bournemouth Creative Breaks: Cooking Your Creativity.
http://blogbcbs.blogspot.com/2011/09/i-often-think-i-could-be-more-creative.html
Creativity by the sea. Friday, 16 September 2011. 8220;I often think I could be more creative, but I know I simply don't have what it takes! I hear this all the time. I used to nod sympathetically, but not nowadays. I feel like since turning forty I've learned more about creativity, and now I am convinced that EVERYONE IS INHERENTLY CREATIVE. It's just that not everyone recognises that, and not everyone works with what they have. Figured out what their creative passions are, and b). It's not just about m...

Sour Cherry: December 2010
http://sourcherrybakewell.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, 30 December 2010. Clove Conclusion and Christmas Treats. I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you all the best for 2011. A big thanks to those of you who are reading my blog and leaving your comments. It has been a while since I wrote on here - the festive season is always a busy one for me with getting around each family unit and celebrating some birthdays but now I'm back! The festive season was the perfect time to have chosen cloves. We turned out a plum pudding. Once co...

Sour Cherry: September 2010
http://sourcherrybakewell.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 21 September 2010. 4 Sour Cherries - Sour Cherry Chelsea Buns. The penultimate sour cherry recipe. I've been enjoying BBC2's The Great British Bake Off massively. I've been learning loads about the chemistry of baking and it inspired me to have a go at bread dough based treats. This was featured in the episode where Jonathan was sent home which, as a viewer, seemed completely absurd. This one's dedicated to you Jonathan! 500g strong white bread flour. 1 sachet (7g) of fast action dried yeast.

purplemurtle makes: Elderflower cordial/syrup
http://purplemurtlerecipes.blogspot.com/2014/06/elderflower-cordialsyrup.html
Adventures in a cluttered kitchen. Friday, 20 June 2014. Our village is lucky enough to back onto a old mainline railway which also serviced the village Pit. The track has been turned into a multi-user pathway, like so many round the country. Lots of wildlife and trees and shrubs, so lots of Elderflower bushes. We took the doggies for a walk and picked a carrier bag full of Elderflower heads. 2 oranges, thinly sliced. 2 lemons, thinly sliced. 2 limes, thinly sliced. 30g tartaric (or citric) acid. 3 Put t...

Rutabaga Dreams: July 2014
http://rutabagadreams.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, 19 July 2014. I never finish learning, and today I learned that pigs in a blanket is NOT the same as a sausage roll. Anyway, this is how you make sausage rolls. But we have developed a taste for a pastry that is halfway between the two, and the recipe is printed on a brand-name lard here in Canada, called Tenderflake. The Tenderflake recipe is so good, that frankly we don't bother with anything else. You'll find it in detail here:. Http:/ www.thekitchenmagpie.com/tenderflake-recipe. First time ...
