Biblio File: October 2014
http://www.jenrothschild.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 23, 2014. Organization Part 2: The Reading Binder. In July, I wrote a post about how I keep organized. Both in reading/reviewing and then all that other stuff I do during the day. After a conversation on twitter this week, I realized I left off something important: The Reading Binder. It's a source of awe and good-natured ribbing in some circles, and it's the only way I can handle award and booklist committee work. (I wasn't on committee in July, so I forgot about it.). 1 A 3-ring binder.
Biblio File: What's Next?
http://www.jenrothschild.com/2015/04/whats-next.html
Thursday, April 16, 2015. I'm a bit behind on blogging about all the books I put stars next to when I'm doing collection development work. They're the books I want to read myself. Sisters of Heart and Snow. By Margaret Dilloway. It's a novel that explores the relationships between adult sisters and aging parents while weaving in the (true! Story of a female samurai. It pubbed last week. She Will Build Him a City. God Help the Child. By Toni Morrison. Um, it's by TONI MORRISON. Pubs on April 21. By Nicoll...

Monday, June 29, 2015. Royal Wedding: A Princess Diaries Novel. From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess. Princess Mia is back! It's a few years post-college and she's trying to juggle the antics of her grandmother and father, her charity work, and her royal commitments. Sadness though! Mr Gianni (the math teacher her mom started dating in the first book) died a little bit before this book takes place. :(. The big press speculation is why hasn't Michael proposed yet, but hey! Along with this book&#...
Biblio File: RWA response to That Book
http://www.jenrothschild.com/2015/08/rwa-response-to-that-book.html
Friday, August 07, 2015. RWA response to That Book. In my post on Wednesday. I wrote I haven't had to explain to her (yet) why our Temple has a perimeter of ugly concrete planters, because if you put flowers in it, maybe we can glide over the fact that our house of worship needs protection against car bombs. And when I got home, I saw that RWA put out an official response. I'm going to quote the entire thing here:. They missed the point entirely. But we should all feel great, because RWA is going to have...
Biblio File: An Open Letter to Bethany House and RWA
http://www.jenrothschild.com/2015/08/an-open-letter-to-bethany-house-and-rwa.html
Wednesday, August 05, 2015. An Open Letter to Bethany House and RWA. Yesterday, Sarah Wendell (from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books) posted the text of a letter she sent to RWA. About For Such A Time. Rose Lerner gathered some 5-star reviews of the book. While I was writing this post, Katherine Locke wrote a powerful response. I have been saddened by this whole thing since I first became aware of the book, the day Smart Bitches posted their review. But yesterday I became angry. 8212; Jeanne (@fangirlJeanne) ...

https://anneboleynnovels.wordpress.com/2015/02/09/defender-of-the-faith-a-romance-by-frank-mathew-1899
Real man weds fictional woman. Defender Of The Faith: A Romance. By Frank Mathew (1899). February 9, 2015. Henry Percy doesn’t get the starring role in too many novels (the only other one I’ve encountered is. The Queen’s Promise. Let priests keep to their books by this splitting of hairs you drive men to be heretics…. I acted rightly. A boy and a girl were betrothed; but they parted and believed themselves free. Would she admit the betrothal? I’ll feign to respect her. Yet I must warn you that ...Oh fool...

http://fillinthegaps100.blogspot.com/2013/04/mariana-by-monica-dickens.html
The Fill in the Gaps: 100 project. Thursday, April 18, 2013. Mariana by Monica Dickens. This may be the loveliest opening to a novel that I have ever read. Mary sometimes heard people say: 'I can't bear to be alone." She could never understand this. All her life she had needed the benison of occasional solitude, and she needed it now more than ever. If she could not be with the man she loved, then she would rather be by herself.". She remembered her childhood, with a mother who had been widowed in the la...

Today was my first craft fair, and it went pretty well. I wish I had glorious pictures to prove it, but my table was against some windows, so. . . The felt birds were the hit of the day, so now I'm hard at work making more. If you missed the fair but need some classy felt birds, check out t he shop. Put A Bird On It. Yeah, so I'm stitching up some wool felt birds for the shop. The new flock features a revamped version of those birds in bright, dramatic colors. The Stockings Were Hung. The stockings are l...

Words in my head. I stepped out of the office this morning where sometimes I am met with the smell of salty air or the cry of a seagull.
