Some people look out the window, others eat their books. Tuesday, August 5, 2008. The First of Many Lasts. Yesterday morning I said goodbye to my sister, her husband, their youngest two children, and most of my furniture, clothing and shoes. As I watched them drive away, I realized that this goodbye was the first of many to come over the next six weeks. And as I replayed it in my mind, the reason for my sister’s sadness finally hit me—it was also the last. Muddy's Chocolate Espresso Shake. A final readin...

More than a few months behind in catching up to the present, I’ve decided to write a short summary of the past 5 months…. In January, I started teaching my first class at ILA…(Senior 3s). The months of February and March were fairly uneventful. I was focused on getting into the flow of work, as well as, daily life in Hanoi. In addition to the Fan...

further than the lid of a pot: On the road to Chiang Mai

http://jpgreenbaum.blogspot.com/2009/06/on-road-to-chiang-mai.html

Further than the lid of a pot. Thursday, June 18, 2009. On the road to Chiang Mai. I really wanted to get a haircut in Bangkok, so yesterday Veronika and I went to a posher side of town to have our hair done at a salon. The stylists in the salon did not speak English very well, so I just said " Victoria Beckham. Short in the back because that's also what I got. Luckily, my hair grows really fast, so in about 2 weeks it'll be just the way I want it. That evening Veronika and I went to the Hua Lumpong.

http://jpgreenbaum.blogspot.com/2009/06/sawatdee-bangkok.html

Further than the lid of a pot. Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Sunday morning I hopped on the bus from Siem Reap to Bangkok. It took about 3 1/2 hours to reach the border, so that wasn't so bad. Once we were at the border on the Cambodian side we had to get stamped out of the country, walk about 10 minutes to enter the Thai side, go through a health check, and wait on line to obtain our 15 day visa. Once I arrived in Bangkok my next mission was to find my friend Veronika who I met through Amalia a month ago....

http://jpgreenbaum.blogspot.com/2009/06/for-most-of-morning-and-some-of.html

Further than the lid of a pot. Sunday, June 21, 2009. Chiang Mai and onto Pai. For most of the morning and some of the afternoon I wandered around the old town area of Chiang Mai. It is a city within a city confined within four walls. I stepped into a few temples to take a gander. The first I saw, and the most important temple of all was Wat Phra Singh. Posted throughout the temple grounds were Buddhist sayings. I stumbled upon a few other temples. Not quite sure of the names of them though. When I told ...

Further than the lid of a pot. Tuesday, June 23, 2009. White Water Rafting in Northwest Thailand. The other day I was just moseying down the street in Pai town when I noticed a trekking/rafting agency. I thought to myself, "That could be fun! The next morning some guys from the company came to pick me up at 7:30 am. We then went to get another guy, Charlie, and his Mom, Penny. It was nice because it was just 5 of us in the raft: me, Charlie, Penny, the guide and his assistant. I have never seen scenery s...

Further than the lid of a pot. Friday, June 26, 2009. I spent the rest of my time in Pai relaxing and reading in my hammock. Most people who go to Pai rent a motorbike, but having just spent a year riding one all over Hanoi I preferred to walk. I thought it was kind of nice to walk the 15 minutes back and forth from my guesthouse area through the fields and over the river to the town anyway. Wednesday I took a bus back to Chiang Mai and finished up some last minute shopping. Chiang Mai and onto Pai.

Further than the lid of a pot. Saturday, June 13, 2009. Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We got in kind of late, so for our first evening we found a restaurant near to our hotel (the Blue Lime Hotel. Definitely recommended for anyone visiting Phnom Penh! And called it a night. The next morning we hired a tuk tuk. Driver to take us to S-21, otherwise known as the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. Further than the lid of a pot. Monday, June 8, 2009. Hoi An and more Hanoi. Noelice and I took a flight to Danang and then we were picked up by a taxi and taken to the Dai Long Hotel in Hoi An. Immediately we dropped off our things and headed to the nearest tailor shop to start picking out things to get made! The next day we rented a motorbike and drove out to the beach, but it was ridiculously too hot so we only stayed 2 hours and headed back towards town stopping for lunch along the way. http://jpgreenbaum.blogspot.com/2009/06/last-stop-bangkok.html

Further than the lid of a pot. Saturday, June 27, 2009. I am back in Bangkok, where I began my whole Thailand extravaganza. I'm splurging big time on a hotel at $25/night. In a few hours I will get on a bus to the airport to board a four hour flight to Beijing with a six hour layover and then another 17 hours to New York. Total travel time: 24 hours. I'm going to be ridiculously busy once I get back home, so I have a lot to look forward to. I suppose you will have a different blog? Chiang Mai and onto Pai.

A way to catch up. Let them eat cake. Tuesday, January 05, 2010. We picked pepper out, and struggled with names. i believe chloe and snickers were top-runners, but derek came up with the name that fit her so well. Pepper liked to hide in our garden, stretch out with her long legs (we called her long dog), and take long, luxurious naps. She came back a "woman," and she was indeed, "knocked up." i still claim that it changed her - she was moody and grumpy and snappy, and not the same sweet innocent pep...

Tramps Like Me . . . baby, I was born to run. Wednesday, June 26, 2013. As I sit in the hospital waiting for my father to come out of surgery, I have nothing to do but pray and reflect on these past few months, weeks, days. Then, bad news. Two days later, more bad news. And certain happenings reminded me of two things:.
