The Bible in Context. My Summer Travels in South Africa. 8220;In Context”: Matthew 18:21-35. Then Peter came and said to him, Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times? I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. Should you not have had mercy on your fellow slave, as I had mercy on you? Why did the master decide to settle his accounts and how did he become so wealthy? What does the master stand to gain by forgiving the debts?

Moving Reflections | The Bible in Context

The Bible in Context. My Summer Travels in South Africa. As I make the move to Jo’burg today, some shorter thoughts I wanted to share:. I have decided that I truly know a city when I have found a coffee shop that I love and an order that everyone at the counter expects. In Cape Town, it was a filter coffee, no room for milk at Milk, Bread, and Honey. In Maritzburg, it is the most-delicious-chocolate-croissant-ever and a bottomless filter coffee at the Bread Ahead. Jo’burg is to-be-discovered! Yes, watchi...

End of the Road…for now… | The Bible in Context

https://jimmyinsafrica.wordpress.com/2010/09/14/end-of-the-road…for-now…

The Bible in Context. My Summer Travels in South Africa. End of the Roadfor now. Arriving in Cape Town, I had no idea what to expect apart from my general knowledge of South Africa. Table Mountain, Cape Town. In terms of tourist activity, Pietermaritzburg was much smaller, so there was significantly less to do in terms of sightseeing (particularly without my own transportation). Johannesburg has been an interesting experience. In Cape Town, I felt like I was learning about the context in which I want...

Questioning certainty, with a lot of doubt...: Queer Worship: "(Not) Queer"

Questioning certainty, with a lot of doubt. The opposite of faith is not doubt, but certainty." -Anne Lamott. The following blog contains the musings of "post Hoke ergo propter Hoke," a queer feminist Divinity School student studying New Testament and gender criticism. It is designed to question and criticize beliefs that seem certain, to propose new thoughts and ideas, and to leave plenty of space for questions, discussion, and doubt. Thursday, March 11, 2010. It's Ghana Be Great! A young minister's encounter with Ghana. July 22, 2010. I found this guy on the floor near my bed. Since I don’t have any bug spray and have a great aversion to killing things that would crunch or squish, I trapped him under a bucket. A cruel death, I know, but there you have it. It's Ghana Be Great! A young minister's encounter with Ghana. Operation: Cockroach Containment →. August 9, 2010. On my way to the beach, I saw a billboard today for a de-worming medicine, and it made me think. Worms? What if I have worms? Perhaps this slight medical paranoia is only a symptom of my malarial medication, but it can’t hurt to ask the doctor and get some peace of mind. I have already paid for the appointment after all. It only makes sense for me to utilize it. August 10, 2010 at 11:27 pm.

Garret was brave enough to sit on the crocodile. Of various sizes that came out onto the land. One small croc actually started after our driver until one of our guides intervened and beat it back with his stick. Needless to say, it was not a very encouraging beginning, but this seemed like old hat both to ...I was...
