Sunday, 29 March 2015. Alpine Swift, Crawley West Sussex. An Alpine Swift had spent much of yesterday at Crawley and quite possibly had gone to roost overnight! Being 60 miles from home, We decided we had to make the trip. Having persuaded Brian late last night that he also wanted to go, we made arrangements to meet at 5.30am remembering that the clocks would be going forward. Sunday, 28 June 2015. With not much happening locally on the bird front, we decided to spend the morning in Kent and headed for Dungeness this morning. Arriving shortly after 6.30 we started with a brief sea-watch. As expected it was very quiet. Gannets were regularly seen passing by. Sandwich and Common Terns were seen but only in small numbers and only a handful of Auks were seen. Pulling into the farm entrance, we scanned the pools but only found Little Egrets present. Monday, 20 April 2015. First stop this morning was at Hythe, hoping yesterdays Hoopoe had stayed overnight. Unfortunately during our 2 hour stay the bird failed to show. A year tick came in the form of a Common Whitethroat and a single Red-legged partridge was watched as it walked and fed along the grass bank and fence that the Hoopoe was favouring yesterday. Saturday, 27 December 2014. A morning with Shorelarks at Covehithe. Christmas eve and an early morning visit to Covehithe in Suffolk hoping to find the Shorelarks still present. Arriving at first light we took the footpath to the beach, noting a pair of Goldeneye on the pools. A short walk along the beach and the three Shorelarks were quickly found feeding along the water's edge. Monday, 3 August 2015. A morning at Dungeness NNR. Spent another enjoyable morning at Dungeness, starting with a visit to Hansen hide where we were told there was a Little Stint on one of the islands on Arc Pit. After a few scans it was picked out among a small group of Dunlin. A single Ruff (Reeve) was also seen feeding among the numerous Mallards and Coots. Good numbers of Lapwing were also present.
