Pelagic tamed. | John Dempsey Birdblog

Blogging for too long, birding even longer. Always a worry when the rig disappears…. A weird week, and it’s only Monday →. Undeniably exciting to see a Sabine’s Gull so close and in such warm sunny conditions down at Pennington Flash this morning, but it didn’t feel. Tropical Thomason had picked me up with Bazzo in the back of his wheels already at about 1030, and once we’d established he didn’t need a SatNav we set off. I think we might be the last birders on the planet to have caught up with this one.

Blogging for too long, birding even longer. Day: August 7, 2015. Undeniably exciting to see a Sabine’s Gull so close and in such warm sunny conditions down at Pennington Flash this morning, but it didn’t feel. These beautiful pelagic gulls are meant to come past low to the waves as you cower on a headland staring westward into a scope full of spray and salt, not dilly dally over your head in between Mallards and BHGs, at one point even photo-bombing a shot of Trops I was trying to get…. Timewise, we gave...

Blogging for too long, birding even longer. Newer posts →. Super-sharpened, blown-up, cropped and Lord knows what else…all nine Great White Egrets flapping past Ainsdale on Wednesday morning. But you’ll need to squint hard, even if you click on the pic to see it bigger. Six and (in the top centre) a tight group of three. Apparently six GWEs made it to the roost at Leighton Moss this evening (as per Pete Marsh)…. Ashley Baines had them come off the Ribble to the north about 30 minutes later. I pulled over...

Blogging for too long, birding even longer. And as you can see, this time we’re taking it seriously. Back soon – but please use the comment thingy and let me know what you’ve been getting, so we can see what we’ve been missing when we return – if that makes sense. Setting sombreros to stun…. Here’s to the wind, the rain and the waves…. And failing that, there’s always Killian Mullarney’s “doodling”! A break from Krusty. Small numbers of Small Tortoiseshell and Peacocks on the move too. But at least it fe...
A little bit of rain ain’t so bad… | John Dempsey Birdblog

Blogging for too long, birding even longer. Sleepy time. →. A little bit of rain ain’t so bad…. A morning of prolonged rain seemed as good a time as any to pop over to Martin Mere to pick up a new ‘scope strap from In Focus. Today, although the south easterly wind direction suggested it mightn’t be a total loss. Wasn’t expecting a Bittern though! 8230;a fine soggy carpet bag for a fine soggy Sunday. The bird took some digging out, and I eventually got it in my ‘scope right at the back of the marsh ...

The tragic life and thoughts of a Fangirl. Artist, Fangirl, Book Reader, Tea drinker, New Mummy(ish) and Dog Owner. Art in the heart. I looked at some bird photography blogs on my ipad and had a wonderful time looking at some photographs and reading experiences until my son came along and wanted to ‘help’. As such, I really enjoyed John Dempsey’s bird blog. I use a lot of water in my abstract artwork and I never even thought about using the ‘crappy’ weather to my advantage before. I’...Both with try...

John Dempsey Birdblog | Blogging for too long, birding even longer
Blogging for too long, birding even longer. A weird week, and it’s only Monday. Painting wooden waders and poking Sand Lizards with the under-12s on Saturday; drawing Mandala sand fish on the beach at Ainsdale all day yesterday, then today I spent the afternoon in the company of a fascinating scientist who examined the skellington of a 17th century Cistercian bone by bone to try to establish the cause of death. Yup, it’s been a strange week, and it’s only Monday. As a shopping strategy it seemed a winner.
