John Grimshaw's Garden Diary: From Ryedale to Holderness

http://johngrimshawsgardendiary.blogspot.com/2015/07/from-ryedale-to-holderness.html

John Grimshaw's Garden Diary. Who would look dangerously up at planets that might look safely down at plants? Sunday, 5 July 2015. From Ryedale to Holderness. In evening light on Saturday. These are a few pictures from a pleasant weekend of gardening and botanising. My garden is currently full of flower, colour and interest - I'm very happy with how it looks. Were conspicuous yesterday afternoon. One of the special plants of Wharram Quarry is the nationally rare Thistle Broomrape, Orobanche reticulata.

John Grimshaw's Garden Diary. Who would look dangerously up at planets that might look safely down at plants? Wednesday, 29 July 2015. Snapshots from a long weekend of gardens. Part of the Perennial Legacy Garden, designed by Paul Harvey-Brookes, at the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show (Thursday) - deservedly 'Best in Show'. Amazing mulleins in the tropical border at Harewood House, at peak flowering (Friday), presumably mostly derived from Verbascum olympicum. At Breezy Knees garden (Saturday). My garden is ...

John Grimshaw's Garden Diary. Who would look dangerously up at planets that might look safely down at plants? Friday, 7 August 2015. Nice plants in my parents' garden. Album'. In the early '90s I remarked to Primrose Warburg that we'd had two stems on this, to which she replied that she thought she'd had forty on hers (planted at the foot of her washing line post). Grown from seed from plants that grew in my garden in Tanzania. It has been hardy here for about twenty years. And Eryngium bourgatii '.

John Grimshaw's Garden Diary: Some late daffodils

http://johngrimshawsgardendiary.blogspot.com/2015/05/some-late-daffodils.html

John Grimshaw's Garden Diary. Who would look dangerously up at planets that might look safely down at plants? Monday, 11 May 2015. The striking large, brightly coloured flowers of Narcissus nobilis. Are really something special, (With Primula. Narcissus abscissus is not a spectacular plant; It was known to the Seventeenth century gardeners as the 'Clipt Trunk Daffodil' on account of its straight trumpet without a flare at the rim. A tiny wild type N. poeticus. Probably referable to N. radiiflorus. Un bon...

Where the Weeds and Wild Things Are. Plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. Ken Kesey. I am a horticulturist and knitter and writer, and many other things besides. September 20, 2016. It has been a long hot, occasionally horrible summer. It is September now, and I just want it to be over. And of course it’s not. The heat has been accompanied by a stoppage of rain. After a spring so … Continue reading →. March 14, 2016. Not so wild life. January 25, 2016. January 17, 2016. It&#82...

http://mostersblogg-moster.blogspot.com/2014/05/noget-om-nye-favoritter.html

Vis hele min profil. Noget af yndlingsblomsten akeleje. Noget om nye favoritter.

Exotic gardening @ 55° North: Charleville House, Enniskerry

http://fiftyfivedegreesnorth.blogspot.com/2015/06/charleville-house-enniskerry.html

Exotic gardening @ 55° North. Thursday, 25 June 2015. Charleville House, Enniskerry. Charleville House near Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow is a large private garden that occasionally opens its doors to allow the great unwashed in. It's close to the more famous house and gardens of Powerscourt, which overlook it from a distance. Nowadays the property is owned by Kenneth Rohan, a property developer with an interest in fine art, so security is tight. Catananche, or Cupid's dart. I've never managed to establish Sol...

grounded design by Thomas Rainer: May 2014

http://landscapeofmeaning.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 16, 2014. May Days: The Garden in May. In May we are gardening gods. This is the month where the fullness of spring meets the opening of summer, creating a moment in time where the garden in our heads matches reality. May is the month for horticultural hubris. For a few weeks, we are the masters of our plots. Like Midas, all we touch turns to flower. Nodding purple baseballs declare to your neighbors that you are, indeed, a plant whisperer. grounded design by Thomas Rainer: No They Didn't!: A Gallery of Mockable Landscapes

http://landscapeofmeaning.blogspot.com/p/no-they-didnt-gallery-of-mockable.html

A Gallery of Mockable Landscapes. It's not nice to judge, I know. But there's so much crap out there that constitutes "landscaping," and so little real critique, I figure its fair game to have a good laugh at the really bad stuff. This critique is aimed at the "landscaping industry" not amateur gardeners who love their little plots. 1 The patio is shaped like a flower. And each petunia gets its own cell, I mean bed. 4 Huh huh. Huh huh. It's true. Should call it mulchscaping. 7 Here's the landscaper's fav...

John Grimshaw's Garden Diary

John Grimshaw's Garden Diary. Who would look dangerously up at planets that might look safely down at plants? Sunday, 31 December 2017. Plant of the Year 2017: Narcissus 'Thalia'. In selecting plants of the year my usual thought has been to nominate something that gives a long season of interest, but this year I've selected a plant that on one gorgeous April day caught my attention and provided a lovely set of images. Not that Narcissus. Narcissus 'Thalia' on Bracken Hill in the Yorkshire Arboretum.
