A Talk by Andrew King. John Harrison’s Parish Church until his move to London c1737. Alexa Baskomb aged 4 holds a model of ‘H4’ made for the Chanel 4 and Granada film: Longitude 2000. As part of our commemorations for the Tercentenary of the original Queen Anne Act of Longitude 1714, we mounted a small exhibition at Barrow upon Humber, Lincolnshire, England. Harrison eschewed the integers of western tempered scales preferring 'God’s' music to be heard as ratios of π (Pi). Much of Harrison’s ideas on music is yet to be deciphered. Harrison’s signature on the last page of the 'Lincolnshire Papers’ (1730). Concerning Ideas for Making Accurate Clocks for use on Land or at Sea. John Harrison’s ‘Sea Watch’ (1759) in finding Longitude at sea produced something that changed the world, enabling an age of discovery, adventure, trade and ideas. We do so at our peril.
