Words for Thought: What's a diverse person?
http://nicolenejati.blogspot.com/2008/10/whats-diverse-person.html
Sunday, October 26, 2008. What's a diverse person? I don't know if last week was diversity week or not, but I felt like I heard about the subject everywhere. It was discussed in three of my classes, there was a series about it in the Daily Illini. And a multicultural career fair. As I sat through lecture last week, I thought about my feelings on the topic. What exactly is a minority? Is it just race and gender related? I am multi-racial, one of which is white, is that considered a minority? Until the lat...

Words for Thought: A farewell to blogging
http://nicolenejati.blogspot.com/2008/12/farewell-to-blogging.html
Tuesday, December 2, 2008. A farewell to blogging. What I learned from blogging:. 1 Spelling and grammar mistakes are more frequent when you are typing than when you are writing. 2 If you don't know, check it out. I guess this is rule one of journalism, but I found myself doing this much more while blogging. Is newsworthy one or two words? Is reread one or two words? Does two-story have a hyphen? I hope someday people will call me the AP Stylebook. Ha. 4 Blogging is a commitment! I agree with Clair. ...

Words for Thought: September 2008
http://nicolenejati.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 30, 2008. So as I was browsing CNN, I came across a video. Of some headline news on Palin's comments to a voter. Palin was asked a question by a grad student regarding the voter's question with a summary of policy on Pakistan that was in direct opposition to that of her running mate. Her response seemed to be more in tune with Obama's policy on Pakistan, which McCain criticized him for publicly stating his policy on the debate. Palin and McCain both blamed gotcha jounalism. Which aired...

Meghan's Blog: CNN.com's attempt to attract readers
http://nutmeg0331.blogspot.com/2008/12/cnncoms-attempt-to-attract-readers.html
Monday, December 1, 2008. CNNcom's attempt to attract readers. When you first arrive at CNN's Web site, you are typically drawn to the lead story and photo followed by the other news arranged alongside it. When I first saw that, I wondered how the topics get chosen. Is it by web hits? Does an editor decide what topics are the most revelevant? Regardless of the logic behind it, I of course clicked on the Scream Bloody Murder link. The one concern I have with this page being linked on CNN.com's homepag...

Meghan's Blog: Are you afflicted with 'TiVo guilt'?
http://nutmeg0331.blogspot.com/2008/12/are-you-afflicted-with-tivo-guilt.html
Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Are you afflicted with 'TiVo guilt'? When skimming the headlines on CNN.com, this was one of the main headlines under the entertainment section: Are you afflicted with 'TiVo guilt'? I thought this was an interesting story to lead with in the entertainment section. However, CNN uses a headline that draws the reader to the story. I wasn't sure what TiVo guilt was until I read the story. I totally agree. There is nothing worse than a story that doesn't have facts to back up ...

Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Tis the season . For my blog to come to an end. . When I first heard that we would have to blog for news editing I was nervous and excited. I had never blogged before, but I do enjoy reading blogs though writing one was never for me. Plus, I don't think my thoughts are that exciting, though I do enjoy egging on Katie O'Connell via blogging. . Here is a final image dedicated to Katie O'Connell. Part of me is sad to see it end this way. We've enjoyed such lively discussions...

Words for Thought: GETTING THE READER'S ATTENTION
http://nicolenejati.blogspot.com/2008/11/getting-readers-attention.html
Monday, November 17, 2008. GETTING THE READER'S ATTENTION. So I was sitting in one of my classes and saw an ad that said SEX on it that caught my attention. It was punched bold and the font size for the S had to be around 60. It was an ad for the S. Press I have to say that my graphics and design class is seeping into daily life and how I think and see anything and everything. That ad definitely got my attention, so I guess it works?
