Monday, June 29, 2009. Watch Out for the Skunk. Madison's latest ballet was Hansel and Gretel. She worked very hard to learn her parts and as the veteran among her peers, was the de facto leader of her group. In Act I, as Hansel and Gretel are picking berries in the forest, they are ambushed by some woodland animals: a squirrel, a fawn, a bunny, a frog, a skunk and a porcupine. Madison is the skunk. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. YouTube Gems - Flawless A Cappella. I love me some a cappella music. These guys are Slovenian, but you can hardly tell. Their English is fantastic. So is their Spanish. Thursday, December 17, 2009. I don't know what the precise conditions were that allowed for this. I know I've never seen anything like it before. These perfect specimens were very lightly blanketing the Jeep on the morning of Dec. 11th as I was taking Brookie to preschool. It was certainly cold enough to preserve these throughout the night. But why did they only barely stick to the windshield and not blow off? What was the window of time available for me to see this spectacle, and why was I so fortunate?

Monday, August 31, 2009. Turns out there's a Category 4/5 hurricane in our general vicinity. It looks like Hurricane Jimena will pass by us without too much ado, but we're already feeling some of the side effects. The usual 2-4 foot waves out back are expected to possibly reach 12 feet tonight. Just in the last couple of hours they have grown to about 6 feet. It's going to be an especially noisy night.
