Sustaining the illusion - WHERE WE'RE GOING, WE DON'T NEED ROADS
http://blog.joshhparker.com/post/109208715837/sustaining-the-illusion
I was fortunate enough to spend the second week of this year in Cabo with my family. While there, I started F. Scott Fitzgerald's. Tender Is The Night. Once again. It’s a novel that I failed to read through a continuous stretch this fall. This ended up being a wonderful, tragic story. The title is carried from the John Keats poem “ Ode to a Nightengale. Tender is the night,. But here there is no light,. Save what from heaven is with the breezes blown. Through verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways.

Now darkness has gone and this will be our year. This is my third or fourth different time writing this post with each edition my feelings toward the year changing. At first, it was pretty cynical. Another year that I probably didn’t learn enough. Didn’t change enough. Then I recounted the great things that I did see and it became a happier post. The editions swayed from one extreme to the other and that’s probably the best way to describe the year. Another moment that stands out was a 4th of July marath...

WHERE WE'RE GOING, WE DON'T NEED ROADS
http://blog.joshhparker.com/tagged/TakeTheCrown
I’m without words to describe the past week which has been unbelievably exciting, dramatic, and a dream. And there is no way to tell it. The art of fiction is dead. Reality has strangled invention. Only the utterly impossible, the inexpressibly fantastic, can ever be plausible again. All of the good things are happening #royals — All in all, we cannot stop singing. We cannot start sinking. We swim until it ends. Royals They may kill and we may be parted. but we will ne'er be broken-hearted.

I’ve got nothing else, I’ve got nowhere else. I cannot get over the bridge in Spoon’s “Rainy Taxi”. Listen to it. Now. The bridge hits at 1:55). Put on your red shoes, sing it to me, lover-girl. When you do, my love, I forget the world. And if you say “run,” I may run with you. I’ve got nothing else, I’ve got nowhere else. The morning after: bleary, and a bit rueful but dashed with emotional potency. I’ve been mildly obsessed with this album’s music and story over the past few weeks. With the Lights Out.

Today, Spoon, the greatest band in the damn world, is releasing its 8th studio album. In anticipation of the release I’ve thought about Spoon a lot lately and after some searchin’, I’ve been thinking about them. And this is a reason I do enjoy the internet and its ability to be a nostalgia machine. Here’s a tweet from when I saw them last in KC:. Saw Spoon last night at the Midland Theater in KC. Great show. http://blog.joshhparker.com/post/1201577065/music-industry-take-note
Music Industry: Take Note. Spoon released a statement. Last week for their show in LA on Thursday. Essentially the statement says that you can bring any recording device (video or still) of any quality to the show. I’ve been to too many concerts lately where you are checked at the door for a digital camera. You mean, you want to. Can amass 200 million (actually 233,198,076 and counting) views. Thank you Spoon for realizing this.

The morning after: bleary, and a bit rueful but dashed with emotional potency. I’ve been mildly obsessed with this album’s music and story over the past few weeks. Were recorded during the late 1960s near Woodstock, NY as Bob Dylan had just finished a 9-month tour when he had a motorcycle accident that forced him to cancel his next 63-date tour. And much to many’s desire, it was a return to acoustic. Led Zeppelin’s “ Bron-Yr-Aur. Rdquo; references, and, of course, The Beatles' Abbey Road. There’s a...
