As of right now it appears that J pod, for the most part, is no longer doing their obvious split groupings - Group A and Group B. I'll keep the prior post as is, because it gives the breakdown of who's where, and goes with the posts of the last couple years. It might not hold true in the future. The whales will let us know :). Tuesday, November 19, 2013. How Have Group A and Group B Traveled in 2013? In the beginning of 2013 Group A and B were split. The J16s were seem with Group B on every encounter in January, making them Group B for the sightings in January, 2013. As the year moved on Group A and Group B traveled together the majority of the season. For the most part they have kept their split group configuration the same. I began calling them Group A and Group B. It was easier than listing their names/numbers all the time. Ruffles J-1 (RIP winter 2010/11). Spieden J-8 (RIP 2013). Eclipse J-41 and Nova J-51. Samish J-14 (RIP August 2016). And T'ilem I'nges J-49.

Sunday, October 13, 2013. 10-13-13 WHAT a Sound in the Night! Sunday, October 13th. Around 10 pm.something strange coming over the Orca Sound hyrdophones. Then several minutes into the listening I hear what sounds like a humpback whale when it blows.what? On this clip it's at about 1 minute 25 seconds). That's strange, but quite exciting! Could it be a humpback? That would be a first time hearing one under the surface - for me - ever! I recorded the sounds on Orca Sound hydrophones for about 22 minutes.

Granny J-2, Onyx L-87, the J14s, and the K12s, K13s, and the K14s went up toward the Fraser, while Group B and the J19s stayed down. Granny and the others came back down, meeting up with the L12s.Group B and the J19s were seen coming in from off shore and other L pod whales were also coming in from another off shore direction.
