Project in collaboration with Marble-Fairbanks Architects. Marble-Fairbanks and Front designed an all-glass student center on the Columbia University campus. Their MEP Engineers advised them that atleast 80% of direct solar radiation through the roof needed to be eliminated for spacial comfort, while keeping the quality of light high. Webdesign by Jonatan Schumacher.

The assignment: Re-design the existing SHoP pedestrian bridge that crosses the West Side Highway at Rector Street in Lower Manhattan. The unique feature of this bridge is a fluid, metamorphosis-like combination of handrails, stairs and supportive skin. The complex shape of the helix skin is the result of a series of scripts that can be modified, using parameters, at any time. The bridge terminates in an unoccupied building. Project in collaboration with Plus Group PLLC. The NY Engineering firm hired us to help design frit patterns for east and west facing glass facades. Their goal was to eliminate glare in the reading areas of the building. Second, we needed to investigate the amount of light to be blocked in order to eliminate glare while maintaining sufficient lighting levels. Using radiance, we measured the lighting levels and calculated the glare contrast ratio of different fritting scenarios.

Project in collaboration with SOM. While at SOM, the design team of a cylindrical tower situated in the Middle East asked me to create a design space that would provide constraints for creating the tower's vertical louver system. The goal was to reduce the amount of direct solar radiation falling onto each face of the tower, while maximizing view, aesthetics and construction ease. The results were automatically diagrammed in a 2D drawing using the graphics and modeling software rhino.

Project in collaboration with Gehry Technologies. I was directly involved in all areas of the model creation - with a particular focus on automation of geometry creation. I developed a method that would import 2D ACAD drawings and create 3D DP geometry. To understand and optimize the quantities and cost associated with the facade, I constructed a system to control and monitor the entire facade system in MS Excel. Webdesign by Jonatan Schumacher.
