Designing Interfaces, Second Edition. What's new in the second edition. Designers that code: a response to Jared Spool. June 1, 2011. In his blog post entitled “Why The Valley Wants Designers That Can Code,”. Jared Spool points out that designers who know how to code can be enormously valuable, specifically to Silicon Valley startups. These “super designers” bring two people’s worth of skillsets to the table, plus role flexibility. And that means happiness for everyone! The part wherein I agree with Jared.

YASIV Blog: January 2012
http://blog.yasiv.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 29, 2012. What's New In January? The service is pretty young and I keep improving it bit by bit every day. Here is the most significant changes I made in January 2012. Amazon limits number of requests per hour one can make. I added caching on the server side to reduce load on Amazon servers and handle requests myself. This allowed me to increase number of items per visualization:. Sidebar now contains all available product reviews from Amazon:. To explore similar items visually:. When I h...

The Years of Saturdays draw to a close - Industrial-Strength Procrastination. May 20th, 2008. 12:42 pm - The Years of Saturdays draw to a close. I'm going to work for Google! Chris, CJ, Rob, Robin, etc. that's your cue.) I don't know which project I'll work on first, but mostly I'll be doing UI work, with occasional coding. It seems I can't get away from that. :-) I'm not sure I want to, anyway. I'm thrilled about this! May 20th, 2008 04:59 pm (UTC). That does indeed seem like an excellent fit. Uh, oh - ...

Housecleaning - Industrial-Strength Procrastination

Housecleaning - Industrial-Strength Procrastination. February 5th, 2008. 11:51 am - Housecleaning. Our house is a mess! There's nothing new about that, but it's starting to make me a little crazy. I've become less and less tolerant of a messy house over the years, but (1) Rich and I are both terrible housekeepers, (2) Rich is still more tolerant of mess than I am, which means he doesn't have the same emotional investment that I do in cleaning (that's not a slight on him! More storage space, and more inte...

Internet radio idea -- update - Industrial-Strength Procrastination
http://jtidwell.livejournal.com/49212.html
Internet radio idea - update - Industrial-Strength Procrastination. February 13th, 2008. 10:46 am - Internet radio idea - update. I did some poking around, learning about licensing, technology, and other things one would need to know about to run an Internet radio station. Let's say that it's a little daunting. The licensing and tracking alone is a real headache. (See http:/ soundexchange.com. Isn't there a turnkey service that can do this for me, and let me focus on content and market? What about the sm...

Housecleaning report, week 2 - Industrial-Strength Procrastination
http://jtidwell.livejournal.com/48919.html
Housecleaning report, week 2 - Industrial-Strength Procrastination. February 12th, 2008. 12:06 pm - Housecleaning report, week 2. I'm a couple of days late posting this, but. Reviewed a stack of old magazines and put them into recycling. Cut up a bunch of cardboard boxes into small pieces, and put them into recycling too. Total of 8 bags generated. And when that was done, we all got sick with a stomach bug! When we got over that, Matthew and I caught a ferocious cold, which we still have. So no other...

Housecleaning report, week 3 - Industrial-Strength Procrastination. February 20th, 2008. 06:58 pm - Housecleaning report, week 3. Once again, I was sick for most of the week, so not a huge amount got done. But I'm better now; thanks for asking. :-) This week we got some of the sweet payoff for the earlier work:. Finished decluttering the back of the kitchen (yay! The bay window is clear for the first time in. um, maybe since it was installed? Continued decluttering the entryway area. I'm all envious, and...
