Breathing Space: Failure
http://judydeboer.blogspot.com/2012/06/failure.html
Random thoughts about life and teaching. Saturday, June 30, 2012. You can lead a boy to college, but you cannot make him think.". The career that I have chosen to follow places me in a position to daily observe the experience of failure. Various students regularly make choices, what appear to be conscious choices, that lead them directly to failing. They choose to not attend class, having read my clearly stated policies regarding NO makeup (see previous post if this seems unfair to you! Daily, in this in...

Random thoughts about life and teaching. Monday, January 23, 2012. I've been doing a lot of reflecting of late. I spent time with a very dear friend recently and we did some of that reflecting together - our. I don't regret not having a certain house or other things that might be considered 'impressive' or 'important.' I don't regret not having a job that would pay more money or have more prestige or, in today's terms, cache. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Judy DeBoer teaches Communication at Inver Hills Co...

I have 2 Redneck brothers - a title which both of them wear proudly. #2 Redneck brother was here to do some doctoring up at the U. He has been living with a rather. The lesson could not be clearer. Breathing Space: November 2012
http://judydeboer.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Random thoughts about life and teaching. Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Politics, Part 2. On the rights of individuals was not the type of state they do live in nor the type of state they wanted to live in. I'm happy to live in that state - even if there's 3 feet of snow on the ground 5 months out of the year. Way for the world to be. Recognize that we have been moving back and forth on this political pendulum since the beginning of our country and we have survived. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Daydreams: Retirement Party Favors
http://daydreamsandotherpaperstories.blogspot.com/2015/03/retirement-party-favors.html
Sunday, March 8, 2015. Recently my supervisor retired. We had a luncheon for her and decorated with a theme of the things she enjoyed doing. She loves to golf and fish, she loves angels, and loves to cook among other things. She also loves the color burgundy. We decided to go with the burgundy color theme with flower vases as centerpieces with some angel figures around the base. See you soon as I catch up with some of my projects from the holidays! Daydreams: Christmas Chalkboards
http://daydreamsandotherpaperstories.blogspot.com/2015/03/christmas-chalkboards.html
Sunday, March 8, 2015. Once again, Pinterest is a wonderful source of ideas for so many things. I nabbed an idea previously seen here. With each gift of the chalkboard I included 2 pieces of chalk in tiny ziplock jewelry size bags and easels that I picked up from the dollar store. I think they turned out really well and were well received as gifts by everyone who received them. I'm thinking that I could make some that would work year round for all holidays! Until the next time, Imagine, Create and Enjoy!

STRICTLY THE SIXTIES: What? No Tijuana Brass??
http://strictlythesixties.blogspot.com/2009/08/what-no-tijuana-brass.html
Wednesday, August 12, 2009. The Pew Research Center recently conducted a poll to determine America's favorite all time musical acts and the results were revealed today (August 12, 2009). The Beatles won the battle of the bands, ranking in the top four of all age groups surveyed. Like all good lists, this one could (should) start some arguments. At best, well, at least Garth Brooks didn't outrank The Beatles. August 13, 2009 at 12:59 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Here is a close up of the ribbon I picked. One more project complete! Go on Imagine, Create and Enjoy! Sunday, March 8, 2015. Letters I had done up based o...

STRICTLY THE SIXTIES: June 2010
http://strictlythesixties.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 17, 2010. Let's hear it for the monkey! Well, for what it's worth, the novelty record will always have a home on my dinky little radio show; I try to play one on every show. Novelty records experienced their peak popularity in the 1950s and 1960s. Artists like Allan Sherman and Bobby "Boris" Pickett went to the top of the charts with records like "Hello Mudduh, Hello Fadduh! And "The Monster Mash." There were also lots of great one-hit-wonders in the novelty business. Every few weeks I dis...

Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Well, I went away for a while, but now I'm back. As you might have noticed, my last blog entry corresponded with the beginning of the Fall Semester at UC. But now summer's here and the time is right for bloggin' on the web. Summer is also the time when I try to get caught up on all of last year's films. To that end, I recently purchased. Back in 1961, Cramer took "On the Rebound" to the Number 4 spot on the. Rediscovering "On the Rebound" and the rest of Cramer's greatest hits, inc...

Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Remember, you heard it here first. The 2011 Academy Award for Best Documentary Film goes to Martin Scorsese for his film. Living In the Material World: George Harrison. Tuesday, May 18, 2010. The Beat Goes On: Summer 2010. On DVD and was blown away by the instrumental piano track that opens the film. As the film is set in England in the early 1960s, I figured the song had to be by some obscure British jazz pianist who had previously escaped my attention. To my surprise, w...Anywa...

Daydreams: Why I Craft
http://daydreamsandotherpaperstories.blogspot.com/p/why-i-craft.html
I come from a long line of crafters. My mother crafted, as did my grandmother. Their interests were different, based on the times during which they lived and the materials available to them. For my grandmother it was quilts and afghans, quilts typically made from my grandfathers, uncles, and aunts old shirts and pants, and rag rugs, does anyone remember those? It was not until the mid 1990's that I was introduced to stamping and card making, via my good friend Tina Dowty and her StampinUp! I am a Christi...

Just A Glimpse | my life, my thoughts, my walk
My life, my thoughts, my walk. My All in All – Part 1. May 29, 2013. Through the years I have had a number of great friends. My husband is my best friend and has been since we first started dating. A girl’s got to have some girlfriends though, right? I would feel so lonely at times. I would talk to my husband about it and he was so sweet and encouraging. I would pray and at times cry out to God. Why am I not in any of the pictures? I began to seek Him more. I still tried to pursue some of these frien...

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Exercise – colours into tones in B&W. April 18, 2014. I was required to take a photo with good clear colour, and then to convert it to black and white and use various filter effects to change the image. Using a digital camera and Lightroom, I found a suitable picture, and converted it to B&W:. Converted directly to B&W in Lightroom. So dark and luscious! Random thoughts about life and teaching. Sunday, October 6, 2013. Nothing is more dangerous than a friend without discretion; even a prudent enemy is preferable. Jean de La Fontaine, French poet. I have been guilty of a lack of discretion. I am not the only one guilty of this. We see that lack of discretion everywhere - 'reality'. Always measuring your words can put a barrier between people. Justified. Henri Frederic Amiel, a Swiss philosopher put it this way: "Mutual respect implies discretion. To speak...
