Some of my reference photos. Painting "Elles Tobacco Planter". This is actually the first painting I have done with a distant mountain view. It's very much like the beautiful view of the Smoky Mountains from my own front porch. Artist Harley Brown. I like to use a really heavyweight watercolor paper, so I can wet it and rub away some of the pigment if I get too bold with my colors, as I tend to do! Along with "Grandpa's Fiddle Break,". Art is not what you can see, but what you can make others see.". It's interesting that such a statement was made by an artist who suffered from vision problems. Since I learned a few days ago that I have a cataract in my left eye, I decided to explore how vision affects art. I don't have an explanation, but I had a cataract develop in my right eye at age 43, which really threw me off - weren't cataracts for old. Painless blurring of vision. Sensitivity to light and glare. Fading or yellowing of colors.

BLOG: Judy Lavoie Art and Gift Shop: New Notecards
http://judy-lavoie-art.blogspot.com/2015/02/new-notecards.html
Are my newest fine art notecards, reproduced from one of my most popular paintings. I've printed a limited quantity to see if they will be just as popular as the prints. Also, these notecards are the first I've had printed on a matte finish paper, which should make writing on them easy. When something unique and simple is called for. 2 for one package of notecards. 3 for 2 or 3 packages of notecards. 6 for 4 or 5 packages of notecards. Let me know what you think of these new cards! Chalk up another painting with barbed wire for me! I guess it finds its way into so many of my paintings because old wire fencing is such a part of my environment. If I painted rural country landscapes from where I grew up in New England, lovely old fieldstone walls would grace the scenes. Incidentally, I've completed a few other paintings recently, but they are destined as holiday gifts. I'll share them with you here after Christmas so I won't ruin any surprises. You get to be surprised too!

New Release Giclee and More! By popular demand, I have created a limited edition giclee print of "Jerry Van, Music Man." The image area is 8"x10", surrounded by a white border to aid in framing. The textured paper I've used for the print is very similar to the watercolor paper I use and the color is beautifully true to the original watercolor. In fact, it looks like an original painting! http://judy-lavoie-art.blogspot.com/2014/12/maggie-mae.html
It's OK now to post another one of my newest paintings, a portrait of our dog Maggie Mae. This was one of my Christmas surprise gifts for Rick. It was challenging to complete this painting without Rick's knowledge, since my painting area is part of our large office and we are together 24/7. A few times the canvas was quickly slipped into a large drawer, with the paint still wet! But as she matures, Maggie gets into less mischief, acts sweeter and has grown up to be a great companion for Ellie Mae. I am p...

A Special Painting for a Special Person. I had mixed emotions when I was asked to paint this #commission. The subject: a funeral procession, intended as a gift for the widow. 'Doesn't seem too cheerful, does it? I was able to turn my thinking around, however, because I knew all the parties involved. Posted by Judy Lavoie. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Link to my website:. The weathered post and old twisted barbed wire said "rural countryside" to me, and provided an ideal backdrop for my casual old-timey bouquet. As usual, I took lots of photos to help me later refer to while painting. I'm not a big fan of winter, so working on this art during this damp, chilly January reminded me of warmer weather to come. "Barnyard Bouquet". Seems an appropriate title, but I'm still open to suggestions, so let me know your ideas. Posted by Judy Lavoie. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am pa...
