Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Inherent coupling of lateral forces in nc-AFM using a qPlus sensor. Automated SPM imaging and image analysis. When it comes to scientific publishers, I just don’t know who to trust anymore. October 11, 2014. This article is a direct follow up of my previous post: How can we trust scientific publishers with our work if they won’t play fair? About it, some other. Either way they have hardly showered themselves in glory. It turns out that what PLoS had tol...

During the course of my PhD I have been heavily involved with activities designed to promote science to children and the wider public, often described as public outreach or just outreach. In 2012, I was short-listed as one of four candidates for the Institute of Physics’ “ Very Early Career Physics Communicator Award. Giants of the Infinitesimal.

SAS Abstracts: about blogs, the future and Ultra-SAXS. The future, according to 1939. Image in the public domain. Source: https:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PRR S1.jpg. With the SAS conference approaching (have you registered yet? Many of us are looking forward to the excellent talks, posters and coffee sessions (a terribly important, but often overlooked aspect of conferences). I submitted a few abstracts for talks, which have been converted to posters instead (TODO: make three posters! Furthermore, one...

About SA(X)S – Looking At Nothing

http://www.lookingatnothing.com/index.php/about-saxs

If you are not familiar with small-angle scattering, this may be a good place to start. Update: check out this review paper. Which discusses most aspects of SAXS data collection, all possible data correction steps and has a few remarks on the subsequent data fitting steps. Besides this introductory text, there is also a good write-up here. Which is a little more in-depth and expansive. Like its sister technique, diffraction, small-angle scattering charcterises lengths in a sample. Simply said, small ...

A moment of stress – Looking At Nothing

http://www.lookingatnothing.com/index.php/archives/1818

A moment of stress. A quick update on the goings on over here: The move is in full swing at the moment, with the boxes having just been moved out. Work-wise, there is a farewell presentation to finish and another beamtime (for which there is perhaps precious little time left). Despite the stress, we are very much looking forward to the next few weeks. Changing times are always exciting, and we will see what happens — for better or worse — on the other side!
