These tiny portraits serve as color studies for my larger pieces, and allow a moment to hyper-focus on the details the faces hold, which are the key to the figures’ emotions. With the rapid decline of the tobacco farm in the South, comes a dying of a culture where all the generations of a family worked together from seedling to tying dried hands of tobacco to take to market. To repurpose the tobacco sticks used to hang these hands of tobacco to dry in the barn, I pay homage to the incredibly hard work that made these sticks so beautifully worn. I had the wonderful opportunity to be drawn as Elsa for a live demonstration at the Collector's Con in Parkville on Sunday! The comic artist who used his magnificent talent was Steve Rude, The Dude!
