After installing SharePoint 2010 (or 2007) in Windows Server 2008 R2, I created a SharePoint web application with a specific host name. Create Web Application with Host Header. I created a site collection from SharePoint Administration, but I was unable to access SharePoint site from the server itself. The solution was to disable loopback check registry entry from Windows Server 2008 R2:.
