First, after a 10-hour bus ride, we arrived in the mountain community of Saraguro. We stayed at the Achik Wasi Lodge, which overlooked the whole town, seen in the preceding photo. At the "hostal," we hooked up with the first of the IALS students, Maria, who works the front desk. She wears traditional dress both on and off the job, as do many in her community. Suzi, reincarnated in Saraguro! A very popular car in Ecuador, the Suzuki body is sold under the Chevrolet name. Shelley gets the royal treatment!

2014 Pistahan Festival, Yerba Buena Gardens: a photographer's dream. I was mashed up against the rail at the edge of the stage. A guy with a huge Canon lens told me to turn off my flash to preserve the battery. Later, I caught him peering over my shoulder while I was reviewing my shots. The opening parade was more modest than in years past, but this cyclist revved up the crowd. Mug shot for doggie lovers like Alisa. His head was the size of a soccer ball. Very friendly! This pair added a bench trick.
