Every Facet of the Game: May 2010
http://everyfacetofthegame.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 29, 2010. Someone Must Be Blamed. 8220;This is all your fault. All you had to do was win a shootout. If the Flyers win the Stanley Cup, I’ll never forgive you.”. These were the words I sent to a good friend and Rangers fan in the aftermath of the Flyers Mike Richards lifting the Prince of Wales trophy after eliminating the Montreal Canadiens and advancing as the Eastern Conference representation in the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals. It is also absolutely true. But at the cost of the Flyers making...

Every Facet of the Game: Predicting the Playoffs is Simple
http://everyfacetofthegame.blogspot.com/2011/04/predicting-playoffs-is-simple.html
Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Predicting the Playoffs is Simple. With the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs kicking off tomorrow, many people are sitting down with a pencil and a bracket today, myself included. And as I make my best Nostradamus impression, I keep telling myself those pieces of advice we tend to repeat in these times. That defense wins championships. That the Sharks will choke. That it’s about the match-up not the seed. That the seed is meaningless. How about going a near perfect 14-1 in 2008? Who exac...

Every Facet of the Game: SRS playoff hockey predictions
http://everyfacetofthegame.blogspot.com/2012/04/srs-playoff-hockey-predictions.html
Wednesday, April 11, 2012. SRS playoff hockey predictions. The Simple Ranking System isn't a statistic that I came up with. It's a stat that those interested in sports analytics have respected it for a handful of years now. However, last year while preparing myself for my NHL playoff picks I stumbled across just how accurate the statistic was in predicting winners of playoff match-ups. New York Rangers (.46) defeat Ottawa Senators (.09). Boston Bruins (.75) defeat Washington Capitals (-.13). Boston Bruin...

Every Facet of the Game: June 2011

Thursday, June 30, 2011. Thursday, June 30, 2011. Links to this post. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. NHL realignment talk is in the air. With the Thrashers move to Winnipeg it gives the league the opportunity to make a few changes that have been sitting in their "To-do" box for quite some time. According to Craig Custance. The new alignment would cut the divisions down from three per conference to two. And apparently Detroit, Columbus, and Nashville would be interested in moving to the East. Links to this post.

Every Facet of the Game: October 2010

Thursday, October 28, 2010. I have counted. It's been 16 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days. Since that picture was taken. Since Marc-Andre Fleury backstopped the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Stanley Cup championship. Since Fleury allegedly answered the questions. And doubt that has dogged him through his career. Trade Fluery" opined one fan. On twitter last night, using the unorthodox. Can he be a number one? While Penguins fans seem to never back down from confronting even the slightest of perceived Crosby crit...

Justin Megahan | He's a pretty okay guy
Hi, my name is Justin. He's a pretty okay guy. September 18, 2013. After the 2010 Philadelphia Marathon I promised to never run again. Not just another marathon, or long run, but even if I was chased by a bear. For the most part I’ve managed to keep my word in the three years since. Sure, I cheated here and there in Tampa, taking a few brief leisurely runs along Bayshore, but they were never serious. It was merely a fling. Which – considering how the two have been tied in the past. Not my performance, of...

Research and Teaching in the Critical Study of Religion and Beyond. One of my main areas of research is the study of Christian origins. I have published widely on the historical Jesus and the earliest Christian communities. I have a particular interest in examining the themes of poverty, health, madness, miracles, exorcisms, myth and ethics in early Christianity and their relationship to ancient popular culture, the neglected everyday world of antiquity. My two books in this area might be of interest.
