Words and photography from Washington, DC and elsewhere. Dog-parents – baby-parents. September 4th, 2014. I was writing this post throughout my pregnancy… Finally getting around to publishing it now…. But first things first, we put Bowser in it. He didn’t fall out in the 2 minutes he was in there, so we think this will work well for the baby. He didn’t look happy in there, but we hadn’t yet bribed him with Cheerios. We’re saving that trick for when it matters. 8220;Is this crib my new bed? You can use th...

Words and photography from Washington, DC and elsewhere. Annnnd July is here. July 1st, 2014. Well, due date passed yesterday, and still no signs of the arrival of baby burrito. Just playing the waiting game for now. Here’s what we’ve been doing to pass the time:. We visited Bao Bao at the zoo! Finding new ways to like beets from our CSA share. You can’t go wrong if you roast them and add cheese and honey drizzle and bread. World Cup watching in bed with Bowser, lovely way to spend an afternoon relaxing.

Words and photography from Washington, DC and elsewhere. State of the times. October 8th, 2014. Labor Day weekend and Matt’s 31st. September 4th, 2014. We did a quick little getaway and spent the morning wandering around the town of Berkeley Springs, WV. Cute little place with some funny antique shops and a random hotdog/snowcone stand that we, of course, happily patronized. In the afternoon, we went for a little hike with Miss Lyla Willow in Cacapon State Park, up the Ridge Trail. Cool moss along the way.

Meandering attempts to take control of total flow. Novels You Shouldn't Teach in Introductory Literature Courses, Vol 1: Melville's The Confidence-Man. A little while ago I decided I would mix things up and get away from the tried and true Benito Cereno. In my American literature survey. Benito Cereno. So I decided that I would go for The Confidence-Man. By the time he wrote The Confidence-Man. 1857), Melville was a bit pissed at the publishing industry and America in general. Despite early success w...

Meandering attempts to take control of total flow. And now for a new journey into the unexpected. Somewhere along the lines of fifteen years ago and perhaps more, perhaps 18 years ago, I was approached at my old university about the possibilities of doing an online course. The technology was too primitive, and I wasn't sure how to bring a real course to students with such tools. In fact, it was more or less a correspondence course that exchanged email (and file upload and storage) for snail mail. Not The...
Countersignature: Twentieth Century Southern Literature...so many choices but not so many weeks.
http://countersignature.blogspot.com/2013/04/twentieth-century-southern-literatureso.html
Meandering attempts to take control of total flow. Twentieth Century Southern Literature.so many choices but not so many weeks. I'm putting together a syllabus for 20th Century Southern Literature. I've never been immersed in a heavily concentrated bath of southern angst, depression, and morbid obsession with family honor, but I've read my share of William Faulkner and Flannery O'Connor, so I think I have a decent basis on that end of the spectrum. 1 William Faulkner, Light in August. OR Absalom, Absalom!

Meandering attempts to take control of total flow. Dispatches from the asylum. You have to wonder how Ron Paul's flavor of politics will play in South Carolina. On the one hand, he hates the government that he's served in for about half his life, so that's a plus. On the other hand, he's a staunch isolationist who doesn't believe in crusading American Empire, which won't play well with those who think we're in a clash of civilizations. To Ron Paul's cloud cuckoo land dreaming. Wednesday, January 11, 2012.

Following the trials and tribulations of my life. Sunday, May 8, 2011. Yes it has been a {very} long time since my last post. Still have a few more things I'd like to get before I can finally unpack everything. Not much left, just movies and such still boxed up. Also finally acquired everything I will need to properly digitize my records. Started that process last week doing 2-3 records a day. Should take a year at this rate! I'll keep you posted ;).
