January 4, 2012 · 10:42 pm. ALL THE WISE MEN. An early Sunday School memory is Mrs. Whyte asking in her sugary voice, And who knows how many kings came to see Baby Jesus? And while those in the know yelled Three , I shouted Nine! I don’t really know, but I know I went through a phase of liking that number, as in Can I have nine sweets? Or I have nine new pencils. How nice it was later to learn that while The Gospel of Matthew- the only one of the four Canonical gospels to mention the. Later Western Chris...

FORGIVE US OUR CHRISTMASES. The Book-Tree →. Stories, lessons and levels of meaning. Travelling through Ladakh or Bhutan, you will often comes across a painted, appliqued or printed hanging that shows a large tree, besides which stands an elephant, on whom a monkey sits with a rabbit on his back, and on top of the rabbit’s head perches a bird. This represents a popular. But they were not very friendly at first. Next the rabbit spoke up: But I fed on the leaves of this tree when it was just a short, small...

ALL THE WISE MEN. ANGULIMALA STOPS →. January 27, 2012 · 1:02 pm. I don’t play the flute, so over the years have had to keep finding people to give my stock of bamboo instruments to! A few days before the flute-player showed up this time, my friend, world famous story-teller and activist Laura Simms, [ http:/ www.laurasimms.com/. This is the outline from Laura:. Her version told of three brothers; I like it that in Laura’s newer (to me) version that the simple wisdom comes from a girl! The Indian telling...

FORGIVE US OUR CHRISTMASES →. May 21, 2012 · 1:00 pm. Angulimala needed just one more. One more little finger from a person’s right hand, that is, to complete his mala or necklace/garland of one thousand gory ‘beads’. Not much is known for certain about Angulimala before what I see as his first, and often overlooked change. The usual account of his life has him the son of a well-to-do family and at one time a brilliant student at the Buddhist university at Taxila. This ‘back-story’ though, appears to be ...

Stories, lessons and levels of meaning →. December 23, 2012 · 9:51 pm. FORGIVE US OUR CHRISTMASES. This is a story I love to do at tellings,. And I have written versions for a UPI column as well as a Times of India/Speaking Tree one. As Christmas is two days away, I’d like to share it here:. I took a deep breath. How long will they stay? Followed by a loud NO , when he mumbled, A month or so. Or so can end up being many months, perhaps years, I muttered mentally. In my defence, it was a time of teaching ...

October 5, 2009} Am I depressed? I thought I might be depressed, so I googled my symptoms and ran someonline tests. It reads severe depression. But no one around me thinks so. So I don’t think that I will visit a doctor soon. I don’t think I need some doctor to help me. If people around me were sensitive, that would have helped a lot. I can only say that my brother is the only one who doesn’t trouble me/ brings me unnecessary stress. Kahani Ki Kitab @ 1:34 am [filed under RANT. August 28, 2009} Rant!

One of the recurring Joys of the Christmas season has to be the many stories that define this time of year. Before he dramatically snapped the thick book shut and sent us off to bed. I love this idea of making a tradition of families reading aloud favorite Christmas stories each evening around this time, and know of several who do so. These stories, many of which may have been written fo...
