MACK attack!: May 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 22, 2013. First Floor Slab and beyond. It has been about a month since the last post, and in that time, quite a bit has happened. This is the 'fast part' of the building process and then I know everything will slow down for the finishes. They worked well into the evening to get it completed. The funniest shock of all was not our miscalculation but the plumber. The plumbing for the toilet and basin for the main bathroom has ended up in Carl's study! Another awesome accomplishment is that Jo...

MACK attack!: We're in!!!!
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2014/03/were-in.html
Monday, March 17, 2014. It's been six weeks now since we moved, which has given me time to unpack most of the boxes and get quite a few of the pictures up. I am so happy with the house and even though there is still a ton of things to do (curtains, more furniture, cover existing furniture, buy rugs etc., not to mention the garden! We are loving being in and feel very settled already. I am going to give you a guided tour of the house, room by room. Welcome to our home. From the patio to the garden:. Links...

MACK attack!: July 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 23, 2013. And on and on. I'm running out of titles for our progress. The roof is still being completed, despite the blistering start over a month ago. But, the house is really looking so good now. The downstairs ceilings are mostly in and rhinolited (here is a pic of our diningroom). I love our big window on our stair case. It lets in the most lovely morning sun. Wednesday, July 10, 2013. The roof goes on (and on and on.). The sheeting is now going on over the main house, so it is starting ...

MACK attack!: January 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 28, 2013. We have lift off. At last we have reached above the foundations and have got to ground floor level! Yippee. Now it is getting exciting when I go to site - a horde of builders doing their thing. I am practicing my Zulu on them much better! Friday, January 18, 2013. Hail the Conquering Hero! Our Lucy, yes, our gorgeous, aged, rickety Lucy is a hero! We had just moved into our new (temporary home - the building didn't get finished in record time over Xmas, sadly! Then in the corner...

MACK attack!: December 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 17, 2013. So it was unlucky afterall. Friday 13th came and went. And for those of you who were waiting with baited breath to hear about our move. we didn't. We postponed it until tomorrow. And now have postponed that too. Most likely until the end of January. I don't really have the words for how disappointed I am but cést la vi. All the other incomplete stuff (staircase, garden, finished etc, etc.) will at least now be done before we get in. Hopefully! Thursday, December 5, 2013. So our...

MACK attack!: April 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 26, 2013. Or ribbonblock as I first heard it! This is how the ribs look:. Then they put the blocks in between. This is what it looks like from below. The support structures apparently have to stay in place for 2 weeks. I braved it up the ladder to the first floor and this is how it looks from above. Next step is to pour the 100mm slab of concrete on top of this. There was a mad scurry of builders, electricians and plumbers to get all their piping laid before the slab went down. Once that is...

MACK attack!: November 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 28, 2013. Tick Tock says the clock. It is two weeks tomorrow until we move. We are getting along really well now, and there is a glimmer of hope that it may actually happen on the appointed day! I will confess that in the middle of the night I am convinced it will never happen, but come the light of day, I return to my usual blind, naive optimism and keep moving forward. The house painting, inside and out, is done. Now they have to move onto the garden walls. Sunday, November 17, 2013.

MACK attack!: October 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Things continue at a pace. Today was sheer chaos on site. We had 2 concrete trucks come and deliver their loads of concrete for the foundations of our new wall. Which is all fine and well, except for the fact that we have just had three beautiful days of rain. Which, while lovely for the garden, is a disaster for our driveway. Mud, mud, not so glorious mud! The flooring guys continue to sand. And sand. And sand. And sand. And the DUST! The pool was marbelited (sp? Anyway, I wil...

MACK attack!: September 2013
http://vanderriet.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 19, 2013. I cannot believe it has been so long since my last entry. To be honest, the pace of progress has become glacial, so I keep thinking there is nothing to report. But, that's not really true. Our windows are going in, and the pool. What else? Anyway, here are a few pics. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Find out what the van der Riets have been up to lately.
