Katie's Tales From Mozambique

Saturday, March 28, 2009. Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Sitting in my car stopped at a red light, my car suddenly began to shake violently. Within a few seconds, many thoughts whizzed in and out of my brain. Here was my thought process: "Hoodlums are jumping on my car! But looking outside and seeing no one, my next thought was, "Did I accidentally lock someone in my trunk? No, that's silly Katie. But could someone have crawled in to play a joke? All of them have exploded at once! Threw open the door and jumped...

Katie's Tales From Mozambique: February 2008

http://katiestalesfrommozambique.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 25, 2008. Just as I have always loved going to school, I have also always LOVED the weekends. The hands on the clock on Friday afternoons have always seemed to crawl as I have longingly stared at them, eager for the weekend to begin. As a student, I never realized that teachers look forward to the weekends as much or more than the kids. Growing up, weekends meant pool parties. Of course TGIF on Friday nights. Every kid growing up in the early nineties should be well-acquainted with Urkel.

Katie's Tales From Mozambique: Final Farewells

http://katiestalesfrommozambique.blogspot.com/2008/05/one-thing-i-have-in-common-with-lloyd.html

Sunday, June 8, 2008. One thing I have in common with Lloyd Christmas is that we both hate goodbyes. And yes, that is ALL we have in common- the similarities stop there. (If you're asking yourself, "who is Lloyd Christmas? Please understand that my roommate Jenny and I watched Dumb and Dumber at least 15 times our freshman year since the only other movie we had was Beaches. Jim Carey. Do you remember the beloved elephant? Next is Cecelia and her children- Oliver, Viktor. This was one of those times.

Katie's Tales From Mozambique: June 2007

http://katiestalesfrommozambique.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 17, 2007. Departure date: July 12. In less than 1 month I will be boarding a plane and begin my year in Maputo, Mozambique! Many people have asked if I'm ready to go. Well, I'm ready mentally but there are still some logistical things that must be taken care of. (ie- getting shots, getting my visa approved, packing, etc.) Since I last updated the blog I have been preparing in a number of ways:. 1- I got to meet with Barbosa, Sinara, and Rafael! No Hot Pockets necessary:). There is no one lik...

The Butlers: Jerry Hughes

http://butlered.blogspot.com/2009/08/jerry-hughes.html

We are at two with Nature. Friday, August 14, 2009. Death is very difficult…any way you slice it. While I continue to feel extremely lucky to have gotten to know my grandfather so well, especially in the most recent 15 years of my “adult” life (and I use this term very loosely), I still cannot help but miss him. Is this selfish and making it all about me? I miss his thirst for knowledge. I miss his humility. I miss the way he could be gentle and yet firm at the same time. I miss his desire for fairness.

The Butlers: February 2008

http://butlered.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

We are at two with Nature. Wednesday, February 27, 2008. Coaching 6th and 7th grade girls basketball is proving to be both challenging and rewarding. In all honesty, most of the time I feel more like a wrangler than a coach. Does anyone remember that great Superbowl commercial from a few years ago that followed a bunch of cowboys moving a herd of kittens cross country? No idea.but I need to get over it.). Some of my favorite moments from the season thus far:. 3) During a voluntary post-practice group pra...

The Butlers: March 2008

http://butlered.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

We are at two with Nature. Friday, March 14, 2008. For better or for.can it get much worse? Lessons learned in the past week:. 1) That guy on those UPS commercials can draw real good. 2) Pasteurized milk causes acne.but Rice Drink is dang tasty. 3) The recommendation "try new things" does not apply to me. Once I was over my tantrum, Cameron and I had a great day. I will admit that it felt odd skiing someplace that 1) I could feel my lungs and 2) had no snow anywhere but on the slopes, but I was able ...

The Butlers: April 2009

http://butlered.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

We are at two with Nature. Sunday, April 26, 2009. Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up. If you do in fact buy into the expression "a picture is worth a thousand words" then the following, family and friends, is my 61,000 word essay on the past couple months. 1) Cameron had to go to CA for business so Colby came up the mountain to keep me company.and he brought a couple feet of snow with him. Me, "Oh, let's do a movie marathon! 2) Cameron and I have been married 2. And then shoot the eggs...

The Butlers: December 2008

We are at two with Nature. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Cue that hard to understand New Year's song.you know the one. That time of year.the time for over-analyzing and intense introspection. Since I like neither one, I turn to Dave Barry because he can say it so much better than I can. Dave Barry's Year in Review: Bailing out of 2008. How weird a year was it? 8226; O.J. actually got convicted of something. 8226; Gasoline hit $4 a gallon - and those were the good times. Of course not all the events of 2008...

We are at two with Nature. Friday, November 30, 2007. As promised, the following is an update on our building project. In an attempt to catch everyone up, we will start from the beginning. Our first time seeing the property in January 2007:. Soon after the purchase in April:. Keep in mind that the plan is to have a wrap around porch and a secondary roof. The finished project should look something like this:. Special thanks to this crew (plus Ninny).standing by our front door. for their dedication:. 3 We ...

The Butlers: October 2008

http://butlered.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

We are at two with Nature. Monday, October 20, 2008. Let's go to the phone lines. Fact: I am bad at "staying in contact", I am not a good phone talker, I fear that email is a bit impersonal, and due to our location, "visiting people" is not very convienient. So, I will attempt to answer some of your questions by way of a short Q&A session. Here we go. Q: You almost died last week? A: No, and where did you hear that? No picture for obvious reasons. Now that we have that taken care of, the only challenge f...

We are at two with Nature. Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Not only is it the Vortex capital of the world, and breathtakingly beautiful, but Cameron and his family lived there for a short stint when he was a kid. Back to the ol' stompin' grounds we go. Some Cactoid looking object:. Water that Fell on Oak Creek:. Good thing Cameron was there to hold stuff down:. I took pictures of stuff:. A perfect mixture of ice, water, and rocks:. Slide Rock (not much sliding done on account of the brisk H2O):. For me, the...

The Butlers: May 2008

http://butlered.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

We are at two with Nature. Thursday, May 22, 2008. First off, let me apologize for the impromptu hiatus. There. Now that we have that out of the way, and my guilty conscience has been mended, we can move on. How is that for symbolism? Cameron flew back to California to focus on work and I stayed here at Camp McMahan (shout out to their generosity and patience) with a mission to push the house project along in any way possible. And push I did. 2 In the likely event that you happen to drop something on the...

Crusading with Katie: Jumping on the Bandwagon: 25 Facts

http://katiehardeman.blogspot.com/2008/09/jumping-on-bandwagon-25-facts.html

To gain an end or engage in a crusade for a. Thursday, September 16, 2010. Jumping on the Bandwagon: 25 Facts. Remember when everyone was writing those lists of 25 facts about themselves? Truth be told, I'm neither cool nor rebellious and I am a recovering narcissist. Thus, I am giving in and jumping on the bandwagon months later. Like I did with facebook. I clung to my "mySpace" account for an embarrassing amount of time. A curious student inquired upon seeing me laugh to myself. Well, for one, I was te...

My first rough draft on life. Monday, March 8, 2010. Last weekend, the organization that runs my study abroad program, organized a homestay in a township for everyone. We went to Ocean View, a community of people displaced by apartheid. It has the lowest violence rates of any of the townships and supposedly a great culture with great people. Unfortunately, I didn’t really experience that. Alice: “Are you comfortable? Katie: “I mean, how much longer is the drive? Alice: “Ha ha”. Monday, March 1, 2010.

Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Stamp of the month: Kinda Eclectic. the last card of the month. Here's this week's card made with my Stamp of the Month, Kinda Eclectic. Because this is the last post with this set, I'm going to try and sum up why I love it:. There really are a good range of images in the set. and they all look awesome combined together. They also look good alone! If you search 'Kinda Eclectic' on Pinterest, you'll see tons of cards made with just one or two of the images. Have an amazing week!
