Friday, July 5, 2013. Running a Stage Prop Using a BeagleBone Black. As long term readers of this blog might remember, I am involved with the theatre and have built electronics-driven stage props before. However, the last time I used an Arduino to drive an H-bridge IC for a stepper motor, so pretty much low level electrical engineering, with a bit of Arduino coding. This semester however, I'm involved in a play with the Provisional Players. Fogg's trip around the world, courtesy to Wikipedia. Library tha...

Kai's Development Blog: March 2013

http://kblin.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 21, 2013. Model vs. Reality. My twitter feed currently is ablaze with discussions about sexism in tech. As a member of the social group that goes through life with difficulty set to "easy", of course none of this has happened to me. I don't know what it feels like to go to a conference where people constantly comment on my looks or gender instead of my work. As I lack the experience, and I also lack solid data, I don't want to write about that in this post. So by the time-proven method of...

Wednesday, November 24, 2010. On the way to Samba 4, week 46. Wednesday, November 17, 2010. On the way to Samba 4, week 45. Wednesday, November 10, 2010. On the way to Samba 4, week 44. I usually hate it when real life stops me from coding, but in this case I had a really fun weekend off the computer. The downside is that the echo server still is not done. So not much happening on the Samba 4 front from my side. One related news item though is the release of a new version of the Yocto Project. Simple tem...

Kai's Development Blog: February 2011

http://kblin.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 17, 2011. Packaging python modules, the really easy way. I just had to package up a python package to make installation of a software we use at work easier. The systems we run here are Suse- and Ubuntu-based, so I got to package RPMs and debs. I did package the odd perl package and some bioinformatics tool before, but I haven't looked at it for a while, so I was pretty rusty. I use the OpenSuse Build Service. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The personal ramblings of Kai Blin. Welcome to kblin.org. I'm using this page to keep track of my personal projects. Most of my online time is spent working on WorldForge and Samba. For these projects, I'm also active during the Google Summer of Code program. If you're a student and interested in "interning" at an Open Source project while being paid by Google next summer, go check this out. My Samba time is currently spent on the internal DNS server developed to make Samba AD installs easier.
