Zoo Journal

Tuesday, May 29, 2007. I really enjoyed reading the essay "Why I Write" by Orwell. He gives four motives for being a writer: egoism, aesthetic enthusiasm, historical impulse and political purpose. Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Endless rows of corn stretch as far as the eye can see out the window of Amtrak’s 351 Pere Marquette train riding from Detroit to Chicago. The bland, dusty yellow nothingness goes on for hundreds of miles, punctuated by signs warning of deadly pesticide applications. As the United State...

Zoo Journal: Untitled Final Feature

Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Endless rows of corn stretch as far as the eye can see out the window of Amtrak’s 351 Pere Marquette train riding from Detroit to Chicago. The bland, dusty yellow nothingness goes on for hundreds of miles, punctuated by signs warning of deadly pesticide applications. Worse yet is the industrialized meat market. Epidemics spread quickly among animals when they are confined to the inhumanely crowded living quarters that are customary to US livestock and poultry production. ...In Ka...

Zoo Journal: Interviewing

http://kcarsok.blogspot.com/2007/05/interviewing.html

Wednesday, May 2, 2007. I decided for my weekly blog to write about my main interview for the profile piece. When I went down to the Co-op for the interview, she came right out to meet me and was very excited to tell me about the store. I asked her to show me around and tell me about the products and where they come from. She was a little nervous and asked me about halfway through if she was doing a good job. 03 May, 2007 17:39. Zoo Journal: Reading Response Week 7

http://kcarsok.blogspot.com/2007/05/reading-response-week-7.html

Wednesday, May 9, 2007. Reading Response Week 7. I agree with you, the piece is not engaging. I would have liked the author to go deeper and to show more than explain. I would have liked to see scenes, to get a chance to really meet Cortesio and thus better understand her choice of career. 09 May, 2007 15:40. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lauren's Journalism Jottings: April 2007

http://journalistlauren.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

A forum for furthering my growth as a journalist. Wednesday, April 25, 2007. This profile hits it. We see a public figure in private- tooling around his home, ferociously reading paperbacks, struggling with his genius. I appreciate the reportage because Gorney clearly spent lots of time with Geisel or at least asked the right questions. I found myself asking 'how did she find that out? And yet also being surprised that I would ask that, because the piece flowed so seamlessly. Thursday, April 19, 2007.

Caitlin's Journalism Blogs: Sorry everyone... can I try again?

http://ziggimawara.blogspot.com/2007/05/sorry-everyone-can-i-try-again.html

Tuesday, May 8, 2007. Sorry everyone. can I try again? So, after reading some comments, I realize I completely missed the ball this the last article- it wasn’t a feature. I was looking for “messy” and just got crap. It was scattered and needed more focus. I apologize to everyone who did read it. I’m posting a new article. I’m sorry to make people read twice. This one isn’t so messy, but is a feature on a new band called Panic! Again, sorry for the last piece! But in case you still want to take a look:.

Caitlin's Journalism Blogs: Final Draft: Spirituality

http://ziggimawara.blogspot.com/2007/05/final-draft-spirituality.html

Sunday, May 20, 2007. I forgot to post my final draft! Dr Rev. Mary Ellen Ashcroft, the Chaplain here at Kalamazoo College and a professor of English, walks up to the trunk of the tall tree and places both of her hands firmly on its smooth and rippling grey trunk. She looks up, “Beautiful tree isn’t it? Her two dogs bound around her as she wanders through the nature reserve. Mary Ellen has lots of passions in her life. She began seminary, moved to. Chapel, but as one student says, it is a place of &#8220...

The Hot Sauce: May 2007

http://sauceishot.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 30, 2007. I really liked Charlie's pick for this week with the article "Elite Colleges Open New Door to Low-Income Youths" by Sara Rimer in. The New York Times. I think that this piece is a great example of something short, sweet, and interesting. The piece then flashes back quickly, which does a good job of providing personal background information. The flashback is inserted at just the right moment to allow the reader to continue building Jack's character. Wednesday, May 23, 2007. In abo...

Charlie's Class Blog: Profile Reaction

http://chmack34.blogspot.com/2007/05/profile-reaction.html

Wednesday, May 2, 2007. I didn't really like how my profile turned out. I am definitly not a good enough writer to get across the character using the show don't tell. I felt I wasn't able to adequately build the character of my subject without coming right out and saying. I attempted to use as many descriptions and situations to illustrate the points I was trying to make, but they never seemed to pan out exactly how I wanted. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). He also emphasizes the implications on employment for local inhabitants and on the safety of the “plaza”. Wednesday, May 23, 2007. The CSA concept is quite new in agriculture but it is a revolution. Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Day of Gracious Living:. It’s a beautiful day at the beach. The sun is shining onto the perfect sand of South Haven’s north beach. The beach is alive with people, doing everything from football to frisbee. Groups of friends cluster near the water, taking in the sun or relaxing and having a drink. In the past, day of gracious living was almost a huge campus wide party at the beach. Some restrictions have been put in place so that the faculty can be more prepared at having to cance...

Charlie's Class Blog: Writing Process

http://chmack34.blogspot.com/2007/04/writing-process.html

Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Despite my best efforts and intentions I ended up writing a story about baseball. It has been a more than small obsession of mine since I was very young and tends to interfere with almost anything I do. There was one other story that I contemplated using for my personal essay but it would have been a little too sentamental and perhaps a bit sappy. April 11, 2007 at 12:58 AM. It's so hard to not sound too dramatic or corny when you're writing. I felt like I was such a Debbie D...
