Making sure I stay in touch with the countryside
Keeping my roots: October 2011
http://keepingmyroots.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Making sure I stay in touch with the countryside. Sunday, 30 October 2011. Its that time of year again when everything has to be stored up for winter use. My Chillies have done well this year, although we never really use many they're nice to have in the store cupboard. Last year I tried drying them on a string in the kitchen but they went moldy in a few weeks so this year I've gone back to the food dryer as that worked so well before. We're still using chilli. Keeping my roots: December 2011

Making sure I stay in touch with the countryside. Thursday, 15 December 2011. Dilemma - I forgot to go and collect veg from the allotment at the weekend (no sprouts this week) and we wanted some veg to go with our tea. What comes to the rescue? I could have cooked the seeds as well for a snack. These could be bordering on the perfect vegetable (I love growing them as well)! What do you think? Posted by Kev Alviti. Making sure I stay in touch with the countryside. Monday, 24 January 2011. I found a recipe on the Internet and loosely followed it (as usual). This involved poaching the oranges for a couple of hours, then cutting them in half and scooping out the insides and pith into a separate saucepan. This pith, flesh and seeds then gets simmered for a while before getting poured into muslin cloth and suspended (precariously) over the rest of the liquid. When I see it! Bad photo at the end sorry! I got dad to meet ...

Making sure I stay in touch with the countryside. Saturday, 17 March 2012. This blog was all about making sure I stayed in touch with the countryside and the farming practises that I was brought up with. Since I've managed to buy a smallholding and move "properly" back into the countryside I've decided to create a new blog and stop using this one. My new blog is called An English Homestead. David Alviti - Tree Services and Rustic Creations: More Pruning
http://www.davidalviti.com/2015/02/more-pruning.html
Sunday, 15 February 2015. Some more fruit tree pruning this week. This was a cluttered 'Newton Wonder' a good cooker apparently. After - a good thin of the centre and some of the lower scaffold branches, as well as reducing the height. Shame it was a bit of a wet day. Made wetter by the fact we had some suckers on a willow to remove, luckily the customers had some waders for us to use. Also I made Jack do it, which made it much better! Sunday, 18 January 2015. Horse Chestnut take down. Got called in to help a couple of friends with a biggish job they'd picked up. I was just there for the day with the goal of getting the tree down in a day, as the guys were coming back the following day to split the remaining wood and tidy up. It was quite alot of tree to get down in one day. And although there was a clear drop zone, the ground was quite wet and the lawn tidy, so we still had to rigg about 70% of the brash and larger diameter timber.

Saturday, 21 May 2011. 65279;Just finished a carved bowl made from a large lime tree I crown raised a few weeks ago, roughed out with an adze, axe and carving chisel I then let it dry for a couple of weeks in saw dust so as it didn't dry out too quickly and crack. 65279; . Sanded and waxed finish. Also had a spare hour to finally get around to cleaning my workshop, you know you've left it to long when you fill an entire ton bag with shavings! The trees removed from your garden can have a use other than woodchip and firewood. Often trees are removed because they are dangerous, or because of a dispute with neighbours, not because you want them gone, by turning them into a piece of rustic furniture for your garden not only do you give the tree a purpose, you also gain a piece of furniture that is priced competitively with other garden furniture, and yet more personal to you. Or if this is out of your budget, or the tree isn't big enough. Etherea...

Reductions/pruning - Anything from formative pruning of young garden trees to full crown reductions of mature trees, all work is always carried out with the trees natural form in mind. Crown thinning - Often a more viable and sustainable alternative to a crown reduction; a percentage of the trees internal canopy is removed without drastically altering the form of the tree, whilst enabling more light to penetrate and reducing the effect of wind on the canopy. Hedge management - From trimming to reductions.

Thursday, 14 April 2011. Had a couple of spare days this week due to a customer rearranging some scheduled work, so thought I'd have a play with my Alaskan mill and make some rustic furniture. The oak I was milling was hardly green, been down for about 5 years and all the sap wood had rotted away, but the heart wood that was left was still solid as anything. Though that did make it quite hard work to mill.. Not wanting to restrict myself to just sawn timber, some bits I decided to cleave. This is one&#...

keeping my pace | in running and life
In running and life. April 24, 2013. Starting Thursday I will be helping with the No Boundaries 5K program at our local Fleet Feet! I am excited, but a little worried as well because I tend to tank in the heat. The idea of helping others will motivate me to push a little harder though! Plus, this is the same program that I started running with and that makes it even more special to me! We will be training to run the Watermelon Classic 5K on July 4th. A very HOT, but very fun race! To Blog or Not To Blog!

It’s been a long time since I came around. It’s been along time but I’m back in town. View my complete profile. Baby your voice as cold as the rainy days make me want to smile. My eyes glued onto you as I sing my praise raising my hands for a complete surrender. Standing there preaching about His’ words with such pleasing accent that grabs just the right attention.
