Weblog Kees and Ilonka Barendse. Sunday, May 25, 2008. It sure was busy in the hangar! Sometimes the hangar here at Kajjansi just seems empty and bare compared to Dodoma where there was always a flurry of activities going on! Many times it is just Mark, Ronnie, Romao, Michael, Stan and me, or even fewer people sometimes. But the last three weeks we managed to squeeze a lot more people into the hangar! This was obviously reason for a party! Not sure what the boy thought of it. The local tribe only use only 4 notes in their music, makes interesting listening. Listen by clicking on Party. This week Ilonka was given the first maize from a pastor from Dodoma. So finally, after years of bad harvests we are now looking forward to a more than sufficient harvest for the people around Dodoma. Weblog Kees and Ilonka Barendse. Monday, August 25, 2008. ZBZ back in Dodoma! Finally, after more than 2 years, ZBZ is back in Dodoma. This aircraft was severely damaged in an accident in April 2006. After long discussions with the insurance company it was finally decided that the aircraft would be repaired in the USA. In April 2007 we disassembled it and packed it in containers which were shipped to America. And now, more than a year later, the aircraft has returned to Dodoma. August 26, 2008 at 3:32 AM.

Weblog Kees en Ilonka Barendse. Saturday, December 8, 2007. Het is bijna tijd om te gaan! Het is bijna tijd om hier uit Dodoma te vertrekken en naar Uganda te verhuizen. Nu dat we nog een beetje tijd in de avonden hebben lijkt het ons goed om de collega's waar Kees mee samengewerkt heeft eens voor te stellen. Op die manier kunnen we ook alvast een beetje een herinnering creeren van al deze mensen. Er missen een paar foto's, maar die zetten we er later nog wel bij. Ben Kulwa, een van onze monteurs.

Weblog Kees en Ilonka Barendse. Wednesday, October 22, 2008. Na tien maanden in Uganda te hebben gewoond hebben we deze week voor het eerst Uganda buiten Kampala verkend. We hebben twee dagen in Jinja doorgebracht, aan de oorsprong van de Nijl die daar uit het Victoria meer stroomt. Heerlijk gezwommen, met een boot de Nijl opgevaren, en naar de watervallen verder stroomafwaarts gekeken. Al met al even lekker weg uit Kampala met alle drukte en verkeer. Weblog Kees en Ilonka Barendse. Tuesday, December 28, 2010. MAF in Uganda heeft een eigen vliegveld bij Kajjansi ten Zuiden van Kampala. Sinds het midden van de jaren 90 is MAF begonnen met het bouwen van eerst een overkapping waaronder het onderhoud van de vliegtuigen kon plaatsvinden. T Is een beetje een raar gevoel voor mij, omdat ik zoveel werk in deze kist heb gestopt na het ongeluk. En nu ben ik er niet bij als ie weer terugkomt! Weblog Kees en Ilonka Barendse. Monday, December 27, 2010. Varen op het meer. Een van de leuke dingen van het leven in Kampala is dat we dichtbij het Victoria meer wonen. Kampala ligt aan het meer in de Noordwest hoek. Een van de voordelen is dat het hier erg vaak regent, hoewel de enorme hoeveelheid bliksem soms niet zo leuk is. Soms lijkt het wel heel erg still en rustig in de hangaar, vergeleken met Dodoma waar er altijd wel iets aan de gang was. Hier komt het regelmatig voor dat we met z'n 3-en of 4-en in de hangaar aan het werk zijn, en dan is het wel erg rustig voor mijn smaak!
