Kelsey's Georgian Adventure

Wednesday, December 19, 2012. In my last post I described some of the things I’m happily leaving here in Georgia when I start to make the trek home in a few days (! But, it turns out that I’m going to miss a lot more than I had ever imagined from the past four months:. How cheap everything is. Literally a bottle of water is like 80 cents USD; can’t beat that price. The value of an American dollar can go far here so it’s been nice being able to afford almost whatever I want. Mountains outside my window.

Kelsey's Georgian Adventure: August 2012

http://www.kelseysgeorgianadventure.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 29, 2012. It’s officially been a week since I moved to the village of Apeni, Georgia! Like my last post suggests, life is definitely different. One of these visits included meeting the Peace Corps. volunteer in my village. Ryan recently moved to the village last month I think and he will be teaching at the other school in town. It’s definitely been nice meeting a variety of people in the village and attempting to communicate with them other than saying gmadlobt. But I’m just tryin...

Kelsey's Georgian Adventure: Things Better Left Behind

http://www.kelseysgeorgianadventure.blogspot.com/2012/12/things-better-left-behind.html

Saturday, December 15, 2012. Things Better Left Behind. I hope you are all getting into the holiday spirit wherever you are! We’re in the single-digits in the “Countdown until Kelsey comes home! The lack of recycling and the plethora of trash everywhere. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve looked out the window of a marshurtka and seen piles of trash everywhere. And the thought of recycling something? Bathrooms that smell bad. Being guilted to eat food placed in front of me. Nothing seems to make T...

Kelsey's Georgian Adventure: Bits and Pieces of Georgian Life

http://www.kelseysgeorgianadventure.blogspot.com/2012/12/bits-and-pieces-of-georgian-life.html

Thursday, December 6, 2012. Bits and Pieces of Georgian Life. There are officially 17 days remaining on my Georgian adventure! I was walking home from the marshrutka stop last Saturday and as I turned the corner to my street a small second grade student of mine, Goga was walking with two other kids (who probably go to the other school in my village). As soon as he recognized me he lifted up his arms (mind you he’s about 3 feet tall) and yelled “KELSEY! 8221; It put a huge smile on my face. Grade he&#8217...

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Monthly Archives: July 2014. After having pleasant weather for the weekend, July came back with a vengeance. I don’t know how hot it was but trust me, it was hot. I started packing soon after waking up. It was warm but still bearable. By 1 o’clock, I was in my underwear glistening with sweat. Ugh I asked was she crazy. Why not wait until the sun went down? The education system works ...

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Monthly Archives: December 2014. As this is the last post about my life in Georgia, let me summarize as best I can:. Georgia’s culture poses a double-edged sword for them. It holds them back in making progress in such areas like gender equality and gay rights. The unequal privilege that men enjoy in Georgia is staggering to witness. It’s so ingrained in the culture it has...On the ot...

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. Mac ‘n Cheese. We went to the supermarket called Goodwill. It usually has the most variety of things one needs to cook. I knew I wanted to cook macaroni and cheese. My other friends traditionally did not have mac ‘n cheese on Thanksgiving. The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. I was in a bookstore flipping through a photo book of Georgia looking for last minute purchases before leaving Georgia when I saw a picture of an amazing looking fortress perched on a mountainside. I decided then and there that this place would be my last destination. I spoke to Zura about it and he said, Oh yeah, Ksani. I was there yesterday. What! He asked if I was Indian Whatever.

The Georgian Chronicles: Part III. Thoughts and perspectives on the world in general; the Republic of Georgia in specific. We Interrupt This Broadcast. This has been a bumpy 90 days. Ups and downs mentally about my (our) ability to stay and teach in this country because of the new visa regulations. It seems like ages ago that I first came to Georgia. I will forever love and remember my crew from that time, though. They are still like my brothers and sisters. It seems absurd now, but back then it was seen as a threat for Japanese people to be in the U.S helping out our country, because maybe they have some insane plan to sabatoge the United States! Meant something in the war effort. It holds an image in your brain, though, and in your heart. Sunday, April 24, 2011. Sunday, April 17, 2011. Sunday, April 10, 2011.

The musings of a college environmentalist trying to live sustainably in our modern, busy world. Wednesday, April 13, 2011. I've been known to carry bags made of recycled seatbelts, organic cotton, and even reshaped plastic bottles, but I recently found a website with what I think are the most fashionable recycled material bags yet. They are made out of recycled tire treading! I can personally vouch for this company- my simple shoes are the most comfortable pair that I own. I wear them to work everyda...
