Joshua Tree Trip

http://ken.motives.com/joshuatree

Eric and Ken explore Joshua Tree National Park. Joshua Tree NP is in southern California, 240 miles west of Phoenix. Eric and I left Phoenix early Saturday, spent the day in Joshua Tree, camped by some huge rocks, cooked dinner in the fire, and went home Sunday morning. Joshua Tree is basically just desert. There are some cool rock formations made of monzogranite. Monzogranite was formed by volcanoes and erosion. The rock often has layers of other rock in it. Eric on some monzogranite rocks.

Jim and Ken's trip to Yosemite

http://ken.motives.com/yosemite

Here's me at the top:. And here's what it looked like behind me:. The next day we did the 15.2-mile, 10-hour round trip hike to the top of Half Dome, elevation 8836'. It was very hard (the 4800' elevation gain is tough) but it was the most amazing thing. We started on the Mist Trail, which heads up the Merced River past Vernal Falls (317' drop) and Nevada Falls (594'). We took this picture the next day from Washburn Point. You can see both falls and Half Dome:. Let's get a close-up:. Why, it's JIM!

Ken in the Goshutes

http://ken.motives.com/goshutes/part1.html

Ok, so now I'm living in my tent and working in the Goshute Mountains for HawkWatch International, monitoring the raptor migration through western Nevada. The view to the west:. A Red-Tailed Hawk to the north, attacking our plastic Great Horned Owl:. Yarr, I'm a pirate! OK, so it's a Northern Saw-whet Owl and not a parrot):. Me and a Flammulated Owl:. Unidentified Bird - NOT!

Obama, Democrats threaten to fire cops, firefighters, and teachers. September 27, 2012. Accepting his party's nomination for reelection on September 6th at the Democratic National Convention, one of the many straw men President Obama railed against was, "I don't believe that firing teachers or kicking students off financial aid will grow the economy.". In October 2011, the Democrats offered a $35 billion so-called "jobs bill" specifically targeted at funding local police, firefighters, and teachers, whic...
