General notes for the winding and care of clocks. On spring driven clocks, turn the key steadily until you feel it come to a positive stop, but don’t force it if you feel abnormal resistance. After 26 years in the chemicals industry, and with redundancy looming, it was time for a change. Having dabbled with clocks as a hobby for many years, and often being asked by friends and acquaintances to sort out their family heirlooms, the obvious answer to the career problem was to set up in business as a horologist. At the same time I invested in tools and equipment, fitted out my workshop, and started to take on a few simple jobs for people at work. Because I am located in the Weald of Kent, Clock.

The same rack after silver soldering a piece of steel into place and filing 3 new teeth. Broken glass pendulum vials. New mercury filled vials fitted to the pendulum. A fractured hour wheel pipe. A new pipe was turned on the lathe and soldered into place. A bodged repair comprising of a plate pinned over a worn hole. The plate removed and a bush fitted. A worn pivot hole.
