My Best Guesses: January 2007

Monday, January 29, 2007. We had no interest advocating the forcing Judeo-Christian beliefs on every schoolchild. I would love for whoever is reading this post to continue reading, but regardless I hope to keep up writing about this issue. I would also very much appreciate your comments and disagreements along the way. First question for you: Is seeking a scientifically viable explanation of creation a worthless pursuit? Thursday, March 08, 2007. Old Earth Ch. 1: Starting Assumptions. A Biblical Case for an Old Earth. Chapter 1: Starting Assumptions. For those who doubt the legitimacy of interpreting the Bible in light of experience rather than the most obvious reading of Scripture, Snoke gives a few examples of when the obvious interpretation of a passage is found suspect, and these are the two I found most convincing:. As we will see in later chapters, the age of the earth seems to be such a case. Links to this post.

My Best Guesses: May 2007

Tuesday, May 29, 2007. God the Father is not bound by His commandments for His creatures, just as He is not bound by the physical laws of His creation. Stop and think about the implications of that. When He says that He is a jealous God (Exodus 20:4), it is His divine prerogative. Here are some tougher pills to swallow:. Jacob have I loved, Esau have I hated (Romans 9:13) and I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion (Romans 9:15). Links to this post.

My Best Guesses: December 2006
http://stevehoose.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 28, 2006. Top Albums of 2006. The best album of "b-sides" ever, I'm convinced. I liked this one better than Illinois believe it or not (the record of "a-sides"). Lots of really good songs on here, although 3 covers of "Chicago" was a little excessive for me. My favorite is either "Adlai Stevenson" or "No Man's Land". www.sufjan.com. Bring Me the Workhorse,. I have www.relevantmagazine.com. I've already written way more about this album than anybody wants to read. There is just no way t...

Wednesday, April 11, 2007. The Role of Culture in Essential Humanity. I wrote that title because it sounds like a dissertation or something. I definitely don't enough to say about culture and humanity to write a thesis. All I have at the moment is a question: How much of our identity (specifically the way we learn, the way we interact with one another, the way we worship) is merely a result of the context we are born into and the way we were raised? Wednesday, June 06, 2007. All passages in italics are taken from the first chapter of Erwin McManus’ Uprising). Although the student had the opportunity, he really didn’t have the freedom. Opportunity and freedom are not the same thing. Chris’s freedom to play the full spectrum of music, to passionately express the music within his soul. Was only available to him as a result of years and years of discipline. But what is the end result of exercising these freedoms? Because You said I have to. I feel like ...

My Best Guesses: February 2007
http://stevehoose.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 20, 2007. I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions. Christian music is music that has accepted Jesus into its heart. A handy measure of whether music is Christian or not is the JPM (Jesus per minute) count. It has nothing to do with profit or industry. Christian music should have its own section of a music store and should not be held to musical creative stadards. I hope that clears things up for everybody. Posted by hoose at 12:23 PM.
