Karpyan: June 2007
http://karpyan.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 18, 2007. Away from the MDLM techniques I have been playing a lot of 45 5 and 45 30 games with the good news being that my ICC standard rating has gone over 1900 for the first time. An improvement of around 50-60 points since I started up in April again after a few months' break. 3) It's interesting to note where the players needed to indulge in a lot of calculation (which you can tell from the notes) and where simple blunderchecking and choosing a plan are prevalent. Karpyan: April 2007
http://karpyan.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 18, 2007. Quick, Quick, Slow. I am now convinced that the key to improvement is process, rather than knowledge. It is doing things, analysing positions, solving problems, practising blindfold games etc. As Petrosian himself says:. What I am finding helpful in going through GM games, is playing out the moves, but all variations in my head and concentrating on visualing the position after going through it. The discipline of training is very hard though. Maybe if was unemployed.

Sir Piño's Chess Quest: Mate
http://sirpinochess.blogspot.com/2007/05/mate.html
Sir Piño's Chess Quest. Tuesday, May 1, 2007. The position below is from a game I played on FICS last week (I played the black pieces, black to move and win). I eventually won the game but I missed a nice mate:. Solution : 22 . Qf2! 23 Rg1 Rd1 24 Rxd1 Qxg2#. If the position was in a tactics workbook with "Black to move and mate in 3" written under it, you would have found it in no time. May 1, 2007 at 11:09 PM. May 1, 2007 at 11:17 PM. Oh yeah, I guess he could do that. Now I'm down a knight. Many so-cal...
