October | 2012 | The Reciprocity Project
https://laurasprinkle.wordpress.com/2012/10
A reading program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Archive October, 2012. Beginning at the End. I can finally feel somewhat relaxed (very relative term) at the beginning of each school day. There is finally a plan in place for each class, and each week. This would probably be a much bigger accomplishment if there were more than FOUR weeks left in the school year! The good news is that I can feel happy about leaving behind a curriculum with structure and activities for those that follow me. After winning the grant...

A reading program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Parent Teacher Conferences, Oh My! Okay, okay. Not all parents suck. Especially not all of the time. But for those 15 minutes, extended to 20, 30, 40 minutes in some cases, where they are allowed one-on-one time with their kids’ teachers… they suck. 8220;My kid really shouldn’t sit the in back at all, he/she gets distracted by the other kids! 8220;Can you please make sure to remind , personally, to turn in her/his homework? 8220;Oh, are you sure. What does make m...
Día del niño: Playtime Galore! | The Reciprocity Project
https://laurasprinkle.wordpress.com/2012/04/17/dia-del-nino-playtime-galore
A reading program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Día del niño: Playtime Galore! So the trimester only has two weeks left, meaning all of us should be worried about finishing units, getting grades in, and preparing for the next phase of the school year. Instead, we’ve had missed school due to strikes/blockades (normal Bolivian activity) and missed classes due to el día del niño, or Day of the Children. Life, and school, goes on. Today was a bit crazy after basically a 5 day weekend, but hopefully we’ll...You are...

Week 8 Wowza | The Reciprocity Project
https://laurasprinkle.wordpress.com/2012/03/29/week-8-wowza
A reading program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. So, it’s Thursday of Week 8 of my year at Colegio Despertad. How did that happen? Just 5 seconds ago I was flipping out on Day 4. Or was that 5 years ago? Hard to tell. Time is whizzing by like the annoying mosquito in my room right now, and yet so much has changed since the beginning of my teaching stint. Heck, it’s still the beginning, but I’ve still grown a lot so for. And I finally have some Social Studies material to use! Now I’ll have time for other t...
Positive Changes | The Reciprocity Project
https://laurasprinkle.wordpress.com/2012/03/18/positive-changes
A reading program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Those really fun parent teacher conferences were last Friday. This past week went better, although I did miss school on Wednesday due to a fever/hacking cough/snot everywhere sort of situation. More perks of teaching =) I am banking on a stellar immune system come December, though. To sum up: Parents aren’t so great to talk to when you’re teaching their kid, but they can be quite fun when you’re just having dinner with your colleagues =). I’m not telling yo...
M-O-M, what’s that spell?! MOM! | The Reciprocity Project
https://laurasprinkle.wordpress.com/2012/05/23/m-o-m-whats-that-spell-mom
A reading program in Cochabamba, Bolivia. M-O-M, what’s that spell? Well I haven’t updated in awhile. Things were pretty much getting into a rhythm with my classes, and then suddenly the trimester ended and BAM! I was back to planning and working really late and just being unhealthy in general. Oh well, I’m sure it will look up again! Especially after VACATION in a month =). That’s quite unrelated to the title, so I’ll move on. And hopefully they learn everything in the short time we are practicing!
