Bilingual Adventures: Adventures in Bilingualism
http://kidsworldjapan.blogspot.com/2012/06/bilingual-bliss.html
English language instruction for kids in Japan. Sunday, June 17, 2012. In May 2012, I started looking into programs that I could use to teach Ms. P (age 4 and 11 months) to read. I looked into a few different programs and decided to begin by using the Now I'm Reading. Series on Innovative Kids. Mostly for its level-specific lesson plans. Ms P is currently working on the " Now I'm Reading! 8482;: Pre-Reader: All About The ABCs. Posted by kuri, ping, the pinglet, and mini-ping. Labels: Now Im Reading.

Bilingual Adventures: Back to School
http://kidsworldjapan.blogspot.com/2012/09/back-to-school.html
English language instruction for kids in Japan. Monday, September 17, 2012. For the moment, we have put learning the alphabet and letter recognition aside and are instead focusing on acquiring new vocabulary by reading books. Ms. P is especially enjoying the Fancy Nancy series, which introduces new words in each book. Mr. Mini-P can't get enough of "Goodnight Moon.". Posted by kuri, ping, the pinglet, and mini-ping. Bilingual Adventures: Chugging along!
http://kidsworldjapan.blogspot.com/2012/12/chugging-along.html
English language instruction for kids in Japan. Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Ms P is coming along nicely with her reading progress! It's amazing to think that less than two months ago, she couldn't recognize most of her letters, let alone be able to read something. We now go through one book a night, with her reading 99% of each book we do. I'm so proud of her! We've been raiding a friend's "library"- well, more like her actual home! We have moved on to some more complicated books, like the Biscuit.

Bilingual Adventures: Progress? (Progress!)
http://kidsworldjapan.blogspot.com/2012/07/progress-progress.html
English language instruction for kids in Japan. Saturday, July 14, 2012. She's able to write her own name without prompting (either in the spelling, or the way to write the letters). This is a great start. She is continuing to have trouble matching the correct sound to the correct letter (for example, "effff" for the letter "f"), but when we read, I try to show her how to "read" certain sight words. Bilingual Adventures: On Fire
http://kidsworldjapan.blogspot.com/2012/10/on-fire.html
English language instruction for kids in Japan. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Ms P is on fire with a blossoming love of learning. Her evenings are taken up with learning ひらがな with her dad, piano practice and finishing up with a healthy dose of English right before she goes to bed. Living in a foreign country where the majority language is ever encroaching on my English-speaking territory, I was less than thrilled that Ms. P was showing an interest in her second mother-tongue. Jealous, perhaps? Fast-paced, ...

Bilingual Adventures: The Alphabet A-Z!
http://kidsworldjapan.blogspot.com/2012/06/alphabet-z.html
English language instruction for kids in Japan. Saturday, June 30, 2012. We've made it through the alphabet! It's amazing to watch Ms. P pick up the letters and their sounds so quickly. She has been quite enthusiastic about her "lessons" and will also do a bit of phonics practice during the day when she listens to songs in the car (like "Tic-Toc" by Ke$ha."Mommy, t-t-t-tipsy! What does "tipsy" mean? The next book we'll focus on is " My World. Another pre-reader in the Now I'm Reading.
