Where in the world am I now? Sunday, August 2, 2009. July 10th in New Zealand. This morning entailed a hike to the Franz Josef Glacier. Without a tour guide (which we didn't have time for), we were not allowed to go past the rope! But we did have to hike the rocky bed to get a close look. Where in the world am I now? Sunday, August 9, 2009. Today I was assigned to work in the lab with John to take pictures of the caterpillars we’ve collected. We were able to use a great camera that focuses very close up. The hardest part is that some of the caterpillars just won’t stop and pose! Some of them keep tooling around, so you have to be ready fast to get the right position and focus. Some of the pictures came out awesome. Here are two of the critters I photographed with my camera! It was an eight year drought after making the Mississippi State Physics Competition for ten straight years at Cleveland High School. (In that time, we had one first, one third place and many honorable mentions). I took them to the contest (one was not able to attend) and felt right at home and was reminded again how much I enjoy challenging kids and giving them an opportunity to do their best among the best.
