When Klezmer Klub began, back in the early 90s, we really were quite a collective of musicians - Jewish, non-Jewish and frankly non-religious friends who wanted to try playing klezmer together. There has always been a strong social context for playing this music, both historically and personally for us as a group of friends. A Klezmer Klub gig typically sees the audience joining in with both singing and dancing, the traditional dance steps being taught by Vivi in a simple, direct fashion that gets everyone involved, from toddler to grandparent. We perform both within the Jewish community and beyond, at dances, folk clubs and private events.
