Exploring the Geographies of Craft and Crafting. Since I set up this blog a few years ago I’ve had several people get in contact with me and ask for help with various projects. I didn’t expect this at all, but absolutely love it when it happens! Of course, I can’t say yes to everything, but if you have something in mind, please do feel free to get in touch via email (joanna.mann@bristol.ac.uk) and we’ll see what can be worked out! Some examples of my commission work include:. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
A new-old project | KnitDiss

Exploring the Geographies of Craft and Crafting. I had been briefed that the collection was large so worked to narrow down my interests a little before arriving. Having recently returned from Shetland (Aug 2013), I thought that Shetland knitting, specifically lace work, might provide me with a good starting point. I wasn’t disappointed! If anyone has any advice, it would certainly be appreciated! In fact, I’d love the company! 2 thoughts on “ A new-old project. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are comment...

Exploring the Geographies of Craft and Crafting. RGS-IBG 2015 – it’s coming…. It’s that time of year again! I always sign up for a paper at the RGS annual conference in January – full of New Year optimism – and then promptly forget about it until the conference organizers start sending weekly countdown reminders. At which point, it’s probably time to revise the title and abstract when you realise just how much plans and intentions change and evolve in eight months! Hilary Geoghegan (University of Reading).

Exploring the Geographies of Craft and Crafting. Mlle Eleonore Riego de la Branchardiere. This poor blog has been pretty neglected for a while, so I thought I’d swing by with a short post to hopefully get me back into the habit of writing here! Back in January I wrote about my latest new-old project. At the age of 23 she lists herself in the 1851 census as an ‘authoress and designer’ living at 106 New Bond Street, London. In the same year her work appeared in the Great Exhibition, in Class 19: Tapest...

A pile of sheep. The British Yarn Guide. Knitting as a subculture →. February 8, 2015 · 2:03 pm. Building better trousers with SCIENCE. I’m still very much in sewing mode rather than knitting mode these days. I’ve decided I need new work trousers and the only way forward is to sew them myself. Unfortunately making trousers that fit well is a high-level challenge. All those intersecting topographies at the crotch! Let me detail the method: I marked up the centre of an A3 piece of paper with 1cm increments...

Intense experience in dim apprehension. Newer posts →. 8220;Onto-Osmosis”: A Radical Empiricist Rant. April 3, 2013. We could think of science as a semi-permeable membrane that partitions – or better, encloses – an empirical field. Inside the membrane are things which have a recognized. Existence – the actual. Outside the membrane is more difficult to pin down – the reality of potentialities for becoming actual? As modes of attention, meshes condition what can. Luciana Parisi’s Contagious Architecture: Computation, Aesthetics, and Space.
