Fell Guide: Grey Knotts. Grey Knotts is really the northern end of a ridge that runs north-east from Brandreth, but it stands separate enough to count as a fell in its own right (even if the 16m drop in height on the ridge to Brandreth isn't enough for some formal classification systems - it counts as a Nuttall but not a Marilyn). The fell has a long north-eastern slope that runs down into Borrowdale and reaches Seatoller. To the south the fell merges into Brandreth. Grid Reference of Summit: NY 217 125.
River Lickle

The River Lickle is one of the less well known rivers of the Lake District, flowing south-west through quiet countryside from Walna Scar into the Duddon. Thousands probably cross it every day on the A595 without realising the river is even there (me included! As it comes just to the east of Duddon Bridge with its traffic lights and the turn to Ulpha. The very top reaches of the river can be closely followed on footpaths on both banks. Further down the stretch between Broughton Mill.

Fell Guide: Gavel Fell. Gavel Fell is one of the group of fells clustered around Blake Fell. It is linked to Blake Fell across the col to the north-west, but this is the only direct connection to other high ground. Grid Reference of Summit: NY 116 184. It is also possible to reach Gavel Fell by following Floutern Pass to the top (west of Floutern Cop and Floutern Tarn) and then turning north to head towards White Oak and the summit. River Mite

The Mite is one of the quiet rivers of West Cumbria, flowing through the grassy fells between Eskdale and Wasdale. On a day when the better known valleys are too crowded, Miterdale can be a welcome refuge. The Mite has fed a number of mills in the past. The first comes just above Eskdale Green, where the river still feeds a mill pond. Muncaster Mill, where the river flows under the main A 595, has only recently stopped working, and is now a private house. Miterdale and Above the Wasdale Screes.
