Little Swamp Sanctuary: On Christmas Day...
http://littleswampsanctuary.blogspot.com/2010/12/on-christmas-day.html
Monday, December 27, 2010. On Christmas Day, an eagle flew over the swamp. Another eagle perched on the edge of the swamp. Note how the white head and white tail blend in with the background making it appear as if it is a smaller hawk, such as a red-tailed hawk, at first glance. Eagles are returning to their nesting territories now through late winter. Often eagle courtship both in the air and on the ground is mis-identified as fighting. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Little Swamp Sanctuary: July 2012
http://littleswampsanctuary.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 23, 2012. A little wren made her nest in the well house nest box this year. She did a great job of raising her little ones. Then she moved to a nest box not far away. The second nest box is just outside of Rusty's pen. Once that brood was out of the box and own their own, she went back to this second box and scolded us from the top. I got the message that she wanted us to clean out the box, but I didn't act on it right away. So. Until it was full to the top. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Little Swamp Sanctuary: August 2010
http://littleswampsanctuary.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 28, 2010. Kristy was able to photograph many of the WRA events as well as wildlife in and around the swamp. She enjoyed even the tiniest of creatures. Labels: greeenest of green. Thursday, August 26, 2010. The pellet was surgically removed by Dr. White, and the hawk is healing well in one of our large outdoor cages. We expect to release her this fall. wildtowild: June 2011
http://wildtowild.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 20, 2011. New Raptors in Need of Care. Just an update on some of the nestling owls: The young barred owl being fostered by adult barred owls is being fed through the window by the adults. Early one morning before the sun was up, I heard the adults calling with different vocalizations to the nestling; they seem to be teaching him different calls. We also occasionally hear wild barred owls calling to the youngster in the cage. Photo by Kristy Morris. It helps to have a friend. In order to keep...

wildtowild: April 2011
http://wildtowild.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 18, 2011. One of several Rough-legged Hawks was released recently. Kathleen Bennett from Northern Michigan University assisted with Earth Day programs, and received the honor of releasing on of these magnificent hawks. Note the very light head of this particular Rough-legged Hawk. Their color varies from dark chocolate brown to almost white. Kathleen's family gathers to view the event. Joe gives a brief talk on arctic birds. Kathleen very carefully positions the hawk for release. Watermark ...

wildtowild: November 2010
http://wildtowild.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 14, 2010. This mature male bald eagle came from Harrison and was dropped off at Guys and Dolls Photography in Clare. Bob and Linda Guiliani, who run the photo shop, are long time members, and often help with incoming injured birds. This eagle was near death. He could not lift his head and could barely open his eyes. It was difficult to even detect breathing. However, through gentle and intensive care, he was nursed back to health, and is once again a free-flying bird. Voices for the Wild.

Wednesday, August 17, 2011. We referred a young Broadwing Hawk to the clinic (Animal Medical Center) for a checkup. He was not yet able to fly, but was otherwise in good health. The parents continue to feed these juvenile birds after they jump from the nest, so this one was fed a good meal, and returned to the area from which he came. Dr White checks the young Broadwing Hawk for injuries. Photo by Kristy Morris. Saturday, August 13, 2011. Joanne Williams prepares the first young bird for release.

Little Swamp Sanctuary: Snow on the Swamp
http://littleswampsanctuary.blogspot.com/2011/02/snow-on-swamp.html
Sunday, February 6, 2011. Snow on the Swamp. Joe, Joanne, Susan, Barb, and Jimmy snowshoe out on the swamp to check the wood duck boxes. Over 90% of the nest boxes were used last spring. The swamp supports over thirty wood duck nest boxes as well as many other nest boxes for owls to chickadees. Photos by Barb Rogers and Joanne Williams. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
