I Love Sisig - Filipino eats from your block to mine: Homemade Pork Sisig - Shots aren't optional
http://ilovesisig.blogspot.com/2010/12/home-made-pork-sisig-shots-arent.html
Monday, December 13, 2010. Homemade Pork Sisig - Shots aren't optional. So for my first attempt at re-creating one of Pampanga's signature dishes, I wanted to get pretty authentic.well try at least. So where was I going to find parts of a pigs head on a Saturday night on such late notice? All the local Asian butchers didn't have any for me so it was on to plan B. During a recent conversation with Chef Dom from San Francisco's Mercury Lounge. Pork shoulder in the marinade. Which literally means "something...

Second Helpings: January 2011

Sunday, January 30, 2011. A Medley of Tastes. Looks can be deceiving. Hainanese Chicken Rice is a seemingly simple dish of poached whole chicken, with steamed white rice and cucumber slices, accompanied by sauces of chili, ginger and sweet soy. But that first bite is so full of flavor, a surprising medley of savory, spicy, sweet and fragrant tastes that define Singaporean cuisine. 3 cloves garlic, peeled and lightly crushed. 600g uncooked Jasmine rice. 2 tablespoons oil (canola or peanut). In a large sto...
I Love Sisig - Filipino eats from your block to mine: November 2011

Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Calamansi basil chicken with garlic parmesan brussels sprouts. OK, so what can I make for this little foodie that wouldn't take forever. I had some chicken breast thawing in the refrigerator and some brussels sprouts that I just picked up from the market. Luckily for me, our family isn't big on rice so it was perfect. But, she's all about flavors so I had to add a bit of kick to the chicken and do something with the brussels sprouts. 2 skinless chicken breasts (serves 2).
I Love Sisig - Filipino eats from your block to mine: Chicken inasal empanaditas
http://ilovesisig.blogspot.com/2012/06/chicken-inasal-empanaditas.html
Sunday, June 24, 2012. I've always thought that being Filipino American was something to be proud about. My parents shared their rich culture and traditions with me throughout my childhood and I've never lost touch with my roots. My favorite memories were the many family gathering and parties where we shared traditional dishes that really couldn't be found at any restaurants at the time. 1 lb of ground chicken. 1 tablespoons ginger, minced. 1 tablespoons garlic, minced. 1/2 cup lemongrass, chopped. For m...

And yes, I know you're hungry too. Oh, Pico De Loro. March 17, 2014. I’ll take a breather from writing about food just this once and feature a break in the monotony – I conquered my first mountain trek! Admittedly the new year brings so much positive juju and at one point I was just stuck in this state of yearning to cross items off my bucket list. I wanted to let go and just see the world. Travel! Go on a food tour! All the while Temper Trap’s “Fader” is in the background). The summit is one attraction&...
