Have been too busy to do much blogging lately, so here is a quick entry–an in depth description of how I painted this little still life of a metal teapot. Here’s what I did:. This is 30×40 on Gessobord (Ampersand brand), painted with Chroma Atelier Interactive Acrylics (for more info visit www.chromaonline.com. Stage 1 - the underpainting, acrylic on board that has been covered with tinted gesso in a light red ochre. Final version of underpainting. Stage 2 - blocking in color. Stage 3 - using more opaque color, beginning to get ligther and brighter. October 1, 2008 at 4:30 pm.

I’m learning to paint, trying to come to grips with seeing rather than looking. If it is about nothing else, painting is about persistence. Why onions? Because they’re cheap, last a long time, can be lit any number of ways and force me to think about what happens when the form turns away from the light. I decided that if I painted one hundred, I might learn something. So I’m posting them here to mark my way, along with anything else that takes my fancy.
