So Cath found a guy on ebay selling river pebbles in bulk, and our shop-front garden was looking a little thin, so she bought a vast number of bags after negotiating a very reasonable delivery fee. Saw a bit of a doco on Hoover Dam on TV (nice to watch something that doesn't end in a medal ceremony .) and it reminded me a song by Sugar from a few years back. They were Bob Mould's band after Hüsker Dü wrapped up in the late 80's. I dig the keyboard hook- a hint of Euro Glam Metal stirred into the indie sound. The eagle (or boat) has landed . Our new container has hit the docks - time for some seriously serious organizing around the place. Good old modern technology - we were able to watch it on it's long cruise around the globe . not allowed to look at or touch the contents until the good folk of Australian Customs have inspected and cleared them though. We have a few different kinds of wattle at the farm and the very first ones to pop this year are the lovely Golden Wattle ( our national flower don't you know ), or for those with a 'botanist bent', Acacia Pycnantha. I just found a nice little bit of information as to why we call Acacias, Wattles. So there you go. The Golden Wattle has the softest and sweetest flower balls - to me they smell like biscuits. And, it really is the only way I'll accept that yellow and green colour combo - as nature intended.

Dunno how we haven't come across these before - about the most beautiful bottle opener in the world . Nambu Tekki crows. Nambu cast iron dates from mid 17th century Japan. Originally the technique was used to create ceremonial iron teapots, but is now a well established craft, with the black color the result of a rust resistant urushi glaze. Can't find them for sale here (again! But love them enough to be considering an online purchase, if it comes to that. They sell 'em at Mjölk. Links to this post.

One of the reliable themes at the farm is the pre-dusk chaos of the local flock of cockatoos going through their (extremely loud) bedtime ritual of arguing over who gets which branch of the rivergum for the evening. They like to spend about 15 minutes sorting out who will sleep where, and nobody gets to relax until the issue is settled. This week, they have had to deal with a confronting development .
