The Lucky Ones: April 2007
http://haroldandkelly.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 21, 2007. There is a lot to cover. I'm sitting with Kelly in a McDonald's under the Champs Elysees in Paris. So backing up, to Berkeley. Our shuttle driver was late, and French, and didn’t know how to get around the labyrinthine hillside roads around Kelly's aunt's home. He kept shining a flashlight at things through the windshield, in the twighlight, and stopping to test the street signs before cursing and wheeling the big van in a full circle again. For the last time this year. Two days...

The Lucky Ones: One Night in Bangkok and the World’s Your Oyster
http://haroldandkelly.blogspot.com/2007/09/one-night-in-bangkok-and-worlds-your.html
Saturday, September 22, 2007. One Night in Bangkok and the World’s Your Oyster. I ate a kind of big rice soup for breakfast, stirred together with pork, radish and omelet – a drug of a good food after a fast, but twice as expensive as the rice and pork on the street outside. I left the hotel after noon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). This is a Flickr badge showing public photos from .Harry. Make your own badge here. Resources we"ve used (a lot). The Lucky Ones: Trabzon to Tbilisi
http://haroldandkelly.blogspot.com/2007/09/trabzon-to-tbilisi.html
Saturday, September 8, 2007. Five in the evening I was pulled from the efficient Turkish bus system and onto an idling antique of Georgia’s. Baggage piled in the isles; a panel open on the side exposing the engine and a fan belt on the curb. The interior was like a steam bath and it wasn’t moving. No sleep, no food and dirty, I’m ensconced in Nasi’s Homestay in Tbilisi – a city with promise, without Islamic calls to prayer, and with lots of museums [none of which turned out to be open]. Monuments dot the...

The Lucky Ones: June 2007
http://haroldandkelly.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 22, 2007. I bought a black baseball hat in Florence after a bit of sunstroke. The prevalent opinion is that it makes me look a little dumber, which might be part of the explanation of my experience in Rome. It’s been plundered and rebuilt as a copy of itself, twice over and then recopied all over the world, but it s, and it still retains its awesome marble and natural beauty and it still retains its sense of decay. The massive public monuments and buildings, and their ancient shattered count...

The Lucky Ones: Not public school
http://haroldandkelly.blogspot.com/2007/09/not-public-school.html
Thursday, September 20, 2007. One point for me. So, my new school has been full of surprises. I have been teaching for almost 3 weeks now. This is my first experience teaching at a private school in Japan, and after 4.5 years in public schools, I can hardly help but compare. Being used to working with veteran teachers who double as social workers and parents, makes it hard for me to transition to this new school. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. We have taken a few trains and taxis since then, and even been on a public bus in the Sahara desert filled with local, traditionally-dressed farmers who were as curious about us as we were about them. 2 comments so far. The Lucky Ones: October 2007
http://haroldandkelly.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 25, 2007. It's fall in Japan and Harold is back. He returned on September 25, after traveling around Bangkok. It has been so nice to be together again that we haven't even blogged since his return. Whether Harold would return to Japan was a relatively quick decision. The photography internship he had planned in Bangkok fell through, so he was left with a choice between spending more time in Thailand or.coming to be with me! We've also been to Tokyo to visit my friend since 6th grade, Ro...
