The Mind of a Helmet Camera Cyclist: April 2015
http://www.magnatom.net/2015_04_01_archive.html
The Mind of a Helmet Camera Cyclist. I'm a helmet camera using cycle commuter in Glasgow (Torrance). I love it! It's fun, it keeps me fit, it's quicker than driving the car, and it benefits the environment. The VAST majority of my commutes are fun and incident free. Sometimes though things happen that endanger me and others. So I film my commute and post it on YouTube. This is my story. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Yes, we've had another POP, and boy.what a POP! I think the picture says it all! As you may have...

DeadDogBlog: Why the Evening News is wrong...

Why the Evening News is wrong. Edinburgh Road casualties 2000-2010 Click here. To see the map in better resolution. One of the less barmy claims by some anti-20 campaigners, which has featured in the local paper, is that we're targeting the wrong streets. Because other streets have higher rates of accidents. On the face of it, this seems a huge blow to the council and 20splenty supporters. It's not that there are more accidents in bungalowland, or around schools, but they are areas that we want to make f...

DeadDogBlog: A businessman's view of 20mph
http://deceasedcanine.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-businessmans-view-of-20mph.html
A businessman's view of 20mph. This was actually a comment on my last blogpost, but it's so good I thought it deserved its own post:. As a business owner and commercial rate payer I would say that the 20mph zone in Marchmont has been a qualified success. You wouldn't expect to drive round a shopping centre car park at 30mph. What's good enough for the large supermarkets is good enough for the business and council tax payers who actually live and work on these streets. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Invisible recumbents narrowly avoid death • Dave McCraw

2013 Audax Ecosse calendar. Invisible recumbents narrowly avoid death. On December 18, 2014. See how they blend into the tarmac! I’ve been meaning to post something like this for years, literally. I make no apologies for having my tongue firmly in cheek with the subtitles…. Yet when you actually ride one, or see one being ridden, you inevitably think to yourself, wow – I wish riding a normal bike felt this safe, with so much room given by motorists…. Watch the road positioning between 50 and 60 seconds i...

POP 4 – Thank You – Pedal on Parliament
http://pedalonparliament.org/pop-4-thank-you
We'll ride again on the 23rd April 2016 to make Scotland a cycle-friendly country! PoP 2016 – The Ride. Route – full info! POP 4 – Thank You. It always takes the POP team a few days to fully assess each Pedal on Parliament. There is such a huge build up to it, and the demonstration itself is hectic, so a few days rest and reflection is always welcome. Mind you, we’ve already been discussing POP 2016 (and we’d appreciate your feedback. To help us plan it better). We are fortunate to have closed roads and ...

DeadDogBlog: February 2015
http://deceasedcanine.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Do we need an anti-pedestrian lobby? So the anti-20mph march on Saturday was pretty much a damp squib. It was a lovely crisp sunny morning and about 40 people turned up. I'm ever so slightly disappointed. I can't help thinking that it might be helpful to have an organised residents group that actually opposed policies that aim to make our streets more attractive to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. These issues - we just get opposing soundbites in the local paper. If we had a group willing to s...

Zanse Schans (12km) and Spijkerboor loop (30km) — September 29, 2016. Zanse Schans (12km) and Spijkerboor loop (30km). September 29, 2016. Bikes go back to the hire shop tomorrow and we return regretfully to ‘old clothes and porridge’ on Saturday. Looking forward to being back on my own bike but will really miss the Dutch cycling infrastructure. Gratuitous couple of photos of Bruce in his cycling plumage to end the record of this trip. Tot ziens! Den Helder and the North Sea Coast (85km). August 22, 2016.
