EB's Blog…I'm in Stitches! My embroidery and creative stitching experiences. DS 2 Ch 6 Continued. April 26, 2015. The cat’s face says it all, I am so busy with shibori I have no time for him! After completing the stitching, winding and tying I moved everything out to the summer house, where the dying was taking place. List ing, and process)but I missed out the urea. Further reading on the use of this would suggest for my purposes it was not really necessary. I took samples out in batches as this was easi...

EB's Blog…I'm in Stitches! My embroidery and creative stitching experiences. DS3 Mod.2. Chapter 6 continued (again! April 26, 2015. The dying process was quite long compared to the process of using acrylic paints however I think I prefer the marks made by dying. There is still merit in using acrylics though. I am a fan of mono-printing and this is what I used most of the time on these samples. I took some painting and printing tools out to my shed so that I could work without worrying about any mess.

I am using Procion MX Dye (150 Jet Black) and mixing my own fixative using soda crystals and salt solution. When I am mixing the solutions I will be wearing rubber gloves, and an apron. I thought about a face mask but the quantities are so small I don’t think this should be an issue. I will also be preparing these solutions in a well ventilated area. Manipulating fabric i...

EB's Blog…I'm in Stitches! My embroidery and creative stitching experiences. DS3, Mod. 2, Chapter 7. Piecing Methods. April 26, 2015. The first method used in this chapter is the ‘Log Cabin ‘ method. Traditionally cloth was sewn around a square, usually but not always, in the centre. Eventually I came up with something. It is one of those things I can do without thinking about it but when I had to do it logically I couldn’t. DS3 Mod.2. Chapter 6 continued (again! May 13, 2015 at 8:52 am. I love the sense...

EB's Blog…I'm in Stitches! My embroidery and creative stitching experiences. April 26, 2015. The second type of sample worked on in this chapter uses the Seminole method. Seminole Indians used strips of cloth to embellish and mend their clothes. They started off with a simple strip of cloth joined to other strips of cloth. It was then cup up into smaller pieces and sewn together to create simple or complicated geometric patterns. This made their garments really colourful. This sheet shows samples 8 to 14...

A place for me to chart my progress through City and Guilds Distant learning certificate with Sian Martin. Friday, 16 October 2015. Chapter 6Preparing fabrics to dye. Having read through the chapter. I decided to make a resist to paint over a piece of cotton, so I mixed flour and water to create a simple paste and painted it quite thickly onto the fabric. I tried to take a picture of the process, not a particularly easy task! Next simple Arashi Shibori tied and ready for the dyes to be dripped on. And wa...
