General notes of nature in my small garden, Lancing West Sussex,. Tuesday, 7 August 2007. A dark mauve Buddleia. Is attracting local butterflies. There have been three Red Admirals. General notes of nature in my small garden, Lancing West Sussex,. Tuesday, 24 July 2007. The dark mauve Buddleia flowers atract a lot of flying insects, including Hoverflies, Moths and Butterflies. Today I observed a Peacock and a Red Admiral talking nectar from it. Early this morning a Vollucella hoverfly was seen warming up on the bare branch of a Box tree. In a warm sheltered area of South Lancing, flight was near a house wall with plenty of green shrubbery near by. I can't confirm species but most likely a Red Admira. On an overcast a very mixed bag of a day, the highlight was the sudden rise of a large light blue Emperor Dragonfly from the top part of McIntyres Field, the part of Lancing Ring Nature Reserve now included in the South Downs National Park.
